| UMESH ADHIKARI Y.Y. Kishida Prize Umesh Adhikari receives the Y.Y. Kishida Prize in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the field of Agricultural Systems and Engineering. Mr. Adhikari, a Nepali citizen, obtained his B.Eng. degree, major in Agricultural Mechanization and Automation from Zhejiang University, P.R. China in 2001. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Assessment of the Potential of Sustainable Farming System through Farm Level Energy Generation: A Case Study of Sijuwa VDC, Morang District, Nepal’. Prior to joining AIT, he worked as Agricultural Engineer at Nepal Agricultural Research Council (National Wheat Research Program), Nepal. The Y.Y. Kishida Prize was established in 1992 by Mr. Yoshisuke Kishida, owner of the Shin Norinsha Co., Tokyo, Japan, in memory of his son, Yoshiyuke. |
RANDY GOSHORN Chintana Boonthamjinda Memorial Prize Randy Goshorn receives the Chintana Boonthamjinda Memorial Prize in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the field of Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management. Mr. Goshorn, an American citizen, obtained his B.Sc.Eng. degree, major in Civil Engineering from the Geneva College, U.S.A., in 2001. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in January 2007 and completed his M.Sc. degree with a thesis entitled ‘The Effect of Varying Light Color on Giant River Prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) Larvae and Juveniles’. Prior to joining AIT, he worked as Engineering Designer at the Dennis E. Black Engineering, Inc., U.S.A. The Chintana Boonthamjinda Memorial Prize was established in May 1998 with funds from her family, AIT alumni, faculty and staff in memory of Mrs. Chintana, a long-serving, dedicated staff in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management. | |
| MD. RAKIBUZZAMAN SHAH Yoshiro Takasaki Prize Md. Rakibuzzaman Shah receives the Yoshiro Takasaki Prize in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the field of Energy. Mr. Shah, a Bangladeshi citizen, obtained his B.Sc.Eng. degree, major in Electrical & Electronics from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh in 2005. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Interconnection of Photovoltaic Base Generation and its Impact on Stability of the Electric Power System’. Prior to joining AIT, he worked as a Lecturer at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh. AMILA ABEYNAYAKA Robert B. Banks Prize Amila Abeynayaka receives the Robert B. Banks Prize in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the field of Environmental Engineering and Management. Mr. Abeynayaka, a Sri Lankan citizen, obtained his B.Sc.Eng. degree , major in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2006. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Thermophilic Aerobic Membrane Bioreactor for Industrial Wastewater Treatment’. Prior to joining AIT, he worked as an Instructor at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The Robert B. Banks Prize named after Professor Robert Banks, one of the Institute’s former Presidents, was awarded for the first time in 1994 from funds generated by the continuing education and consultancy activities in Geotechnical Engineering led by Professor A.S. Balasubramaniam and his colleagues. | |
| PRUET PATHIRAPONG Hisamatsu Prize Pruet Pathiraphong receives the Hisamatsu Prize in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the field of Food Engineering and Bioprocess Technology. Mr. Pruet, a Thai citizen, obtained his B.Sc. degree, major in Biotechnology from Kasetsart University, Thailand, in 2007. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 an completed his M.Sc. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Modification of Corn Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles by Probiotics’. The Hisamatsu Prize is awarded from funds provided in 1982 by Professor Yoshihiro Hisamatsu, former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo and now Advisor in Technology to the Nisshin Steel Co., Ltd. of Japan. |
NIR PRASAD DAHL SUFIA KHANOM Alastair M. North Prize Nir Prasad Dahl and Sufia Khanom receives the Alastair M. North Prize in recognition of their outstanding academic performance in the field of Gender and Development Studies. Mr. Dahl, a Nepali citizen, obtained his M.A. degree, major in Population Studies from Tribhuvan University, Nepal in 2001. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Sc. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Gender Implications of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Among Home Based Workers in Nepal.’ Prior to joining AIT, he worked as a Research Manager at the Nepal Institute of Peace, Nepal. Ms. Khanom, a Bangladeshi citizen, obtained her Master in Social Science degree, major in Women’s Studies from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2005. She was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed her M.Sc. degree with a thesis entitled ‘A Comparative Analysis on Insecurity among Thai, Thai-Karen and Karen Women in the Context of Forest Livelihoods in Kaeng Krachan Complex, Thailand.’ Prior to joining AIT, she worked as a Research Officer at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies, Bangladesh. | THITIKAN SATCHABUT Tim Kendall Memorial Prize and Yoh Kurosawa Prize Thitikan Satchabut receives the Tim Kendall Memorial Prize in recognition of her outstanding academic performance in the field of Natural Resources Management and the Yoh Kurosawa Prize in recognition of her being the most outstanding academic performer among female graduating students in the School of Environment, Resources and Development. Ms. Thitikan, a Thai citizen, obtained her Bachelor of Environmental Science degree, major in Regulatory Science from the University of Arkansas, U.S.A. in 2007. She was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed her M.Sc. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Gender-Based Community Participation in Biodiversity Conservation Activities: A Case Study from Ratchaburi, Thailand’. The Tim Kendall Memorial Prize was established in 1981 from funds provided by the United Kingdom Appeal, in memory of Mr. R.M. (Tim) Kendall, member of the Board of Trustees from 1971 to 1981. The Yoh Kurosawa Prize is funded by KEIDANREN, the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations. |

Linen III Memorial Prize in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the field of Pulp and Paper Technology. Mr. Srikanth, an Indian citizen, obtained his Bachelor degree, major in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, India, in 2003. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Effect of Bio-Polymer Latex on Properties of Coated Paper’. Prior to joining AIT, he worked at the Ballarpur Industries Ltd., Unit Bhigwan, India. The James A. Ms. Sharma, a Nepali citizen, obtained her M.Sc. degree, major in Environmental Management, from Pokhara University, Nepal in 2004. FAISAL MAMICPIC ALIH John A. Hrones Prize and AIT Alumni Association Prize Faisal Mamicpic Alih receives the John A. Hrones Prize in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the field of Urban Environmental Management and the AIT Alumni Association Prize in recognition of his most outstanding academic performance in the School of Environment, Resources and Development. Mr. Alih, a Filipino citizen, obtained his B.Sc. degree, major in Architecture from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Philippines in 2002. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Sc. degree with a thesis entitled ‘An Analysis of Paratransit Services from a Multi-Benefit Perspective: A Case Study of Jeepneys in Cebu City, Philippines’. Prior to joining AIT, he worked as a Project Manager at the Siquijor Heritage Foundation, Philippines. The John A. Hrones Prize is awarded from funds provided in 1996 by the AIT Foundation Inc., U.S.A., in honor of the late Dr. Hrones, who served as a member of the AIT Board of Trustees from 1968 to 1998. | PRANAY KUMAR DAS ISHA VASAN Wilhelm Hill Prize Pranay Kumar Das and Isha Vasan receives the Wilhelm Hill Prize in recognition of their outstanding academic performance among MBA students in the School of Management. Mr. Das, a Bangladeshi citizen, obtained his Master in Social Science degree, major in Economics from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Bangladesh in 1998. He was admitted to the AIT MBA program in August 2007 and completed his MBA degree with a research study entitled ‘New Business Opportunities in the Mobile Telecommunication Market of Bangladesh.’ Prior to joining AIT, he worked as Principal Officer (Credit Section) at Pubali Bank Ltd., Bangladesh. Ms. Vasan, an Indian citizen, obtained her B. Tech. degree, major in Computer from Jamia Millia Islamia, India in 2005. She was admitted to the AIT MBA program in August 2007 and completed her MBA degree with coursework option. Prior to joining AIT, she worked as Software Engineer at Computer Sciences Corporation, India. The Wilhelm Hill Prize was established in 1996 from funds contributed by Professor Wilhelm Hill, Head of the Strategic Studies Research and Publishing Unit, University of Basel, Switzerland, and a member of the AIT Board of Trustees from 1993 to 1999. |
RIDDHI GHOSH Thyssen Budd Automotive Prize Riddhi Ghosh receives the Thyssen Budd Automotive Prize in recognition of her outstanding academic performance in the Executive MBA Program of the School of Management. Ms. Ghosh, an Indian citizen, obtained her B.Eng. degree, major in Electrical Engineering from Vidyasagar University, India in 2002. She was admitted to the AIT EMBA program in January 2008 and completed her MBA (Executive) degree with a project entitled ‘Corporate Communication – from Communication Facilitator to Business Enabler: A Case Study on ITC Limited, India’. Prior to joining AIT, she worked as Engineer at Tirathai Public Company Limited, Samutprakan, Thailand. Ms. Salinthip, a Thai citizen, obtained her B.Eng. degree, major in Survey Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand in 2006. She was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed her M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Improvement of Local Maximum Fitting (LMF) for High Temporal Remote Sensing Data using Meteorological Data.’ Mr. Win, a Myanmar citizen, obtained his B.Sc. degree, major in Geology from Yangon University, Myanmar in 1996. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Sc. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Opium Poppy Cultivation Detection using Moderate Resolution Satellite Imagery: A Case Study in Myanmar.’ Prior to joining AIT, he worked as GIS Analyst at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Myanmar. Ms. Shrestha, a Nepali citizen, obtained her B.Eng. degree, major in Electronics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal in 2007. She was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed her M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Dynamic Subcarrier Allocation with Transmit Diversity for OFDMA Based Wireless Multicast Systems.’ Prior to joining AIT, she worked as System and Network Administrator at INFOCOM Pvt. | H. M. S. P. HERATH A B Sharma Memorial Prize H.M.S.P. Herath receives the A B Sharma Memorial Prize in recognition of having the best thesis from the fields of Information and Communications Technologies and Telecommunications. Mr. Herath, a Sri Lankan citizen, obtained his B.Sc. Eng. degree, major in Electronics and Telecommunication from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 2005. He was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio-Fading, Diversity and User Cooperation.’ Prior to joining AIT, he was a Software Engineer at the Millennium Information Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka. NGUYEN THI THU HA Hodaka Prize and Hiromichi Seya Prize Prize Nguyen Thi Thu Ha receives the Hodaka Prize in recognition of her outstanding academic performance in the field of Water Engineering and Management and the Yoh Kurosawa Prize in recognition of her being the most outstanding academic performer among female graduating students in the School of Engineering and Technology Ms. Ha, a Vietnamese citizen, obtained her B.Eng. degree, major in Hydrology and Environment from Water Resources University, Vietnam in 2006. She was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed her M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Water Resources Management in Ba River Basin under Future Development and Climate Scenarios.’ Prior to joining AIT, she worked as an Asst. Lecturer at Water Resources University, Vietnam. The Hodaka Prize is awarded from funds contributed in 1990 by Professor Hiroyoshi Shi-igai, President of Japan River Association and a member of the AIT Board of Trustees from 1980 to 2000. | VICTOR RANA SHINDE AITAA Prize Victor Rana Shinde receives the AIT Alumni Association (AITAA) Prize in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the School of Engineering and Technology. Mr. Shinde, an Indian citizen, obtained her B.Eng. degree, major in Civil Engineering from Karnatak University, India in 1999. Mr. Shinde was admitted to the AIT Master’s program in August 2007 and completed his M.Eng. degree with a thesis entitled ‘Urban Water Demand Forecasting using Artificial Neural Networks: A Case Study of Bangkok’. Prior to joining AIT, Mr. Shinde worked as a Lecturer at Seychelles Institute of Technology, Seychelles. The AITAA Prize is awarded from funds provided by the AIT Alumni Association. |
