
A special ceremony was held on 10th June 2022, to express AIT’s appreciation to Sanshin Construction (Thailand) Co., Ltd. for supporting the amount of THB 800,000 towards the Geotechnical and Earth Resources Engineering (GTE) laboratory, School of Engineering & Technology (SET). AIT President Dr. Eden Y. Woon presented the tokens of appreciation to Mr. Junichi Yamazaki, President of Sanshin Corporation Japan, Mr. Ricky Wong, President of Sanshin Construction (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Mr. Morris Min Wang, President of ISEKI Engineering (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
Sanshin Corporation Japan is a well-known corporation in the fields of ground improvement, earth retaining structures, and foundation engineering in the world. The headquarter is located in Japan, and the company has branch offices in Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore. Sanshin has extensive experience in the construction of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) systems and high-speed railroads in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. Sanshin also worked on the MRT Orange Line and Blue Line Projects in Thailand.
Dr. Eden Woon expressed his sincere thanks to Mr. Yamazaki for this generous contribution, which will enable GTE students to conduct their research using more efficient equipment leading to higher quality research output. Dr. Woon further stated that he is happy to know that the GTE program has been working with Sanshin and its subsidiaries on various projects related to Geotechnical Engineering research collaboration activities from 2017 and continues to do so. Several ongoing and future collaboration projects are in the pipeline.
Furthermore, Dr. Woon stated that one of AIT’s focus areas is to establish more relationships with industries and enterprises, especially with prestigious companies such as Sanshin. AIT and Japan enjoys a long-term relationship over more than 50 years, and the Institute has received various forms of support from the Government of Japan including faculty secondments and scholarships, most recently for the Marine Plastic Abatement (MPA) program. The collaboration with Sanshin is another example of AIT’s relevance to the private sector.

Mr. Yamazaki expressed his thanks to AIT President for inviting him, Sanshin team and Rapid Jet Associate delegates to the appreciation ceremony. Mr. Yamazaki looks forward to continuing and developing geotechnical engineering technology with AIT.
