8 August 2022- Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) in Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in teaching, research, and training and to provide international quality higher education opportunities to the students of Nepal and contribute to the sustainable development of the region.

President Dr. Eden Woon expressed AIT’s interest in supporting the capacity development of AFU and suggested that the flexible degree options at AIT can benefit AFU staff and faculty.
Stating that AIT looks forward to the partnership with AFU, Dr. Woon added, “AIT focuses on innovation and technology, and there is a lot of potential in the collaboration.”


The activities under the scope of this MoU include:
- International Unified Bachelor’s-Master’s degree and postgraduate degree programs for students;
- Ph.D. programs for the faculty and staff of AFU;
- Promotion of institutional linkage for possible collaborations;
- Short-term faculty visits for capacity building and training;
- and student exchange programs and training camps
- Joint proposals, research projects, conferences, workshops, and seminars.
- Special short-term academic programs, projects, and training.
- Exchange academic materials and other information, and link science with society by joint ventures.
Expressing AFUs interest in strengthening the relationship with AIT, Prof. Punya Prasad Regmi, Vice-Chancellor, said, “We see a lot of prospects in this partnership. Some of our staff are AIT alumni, and we have realized there is a lot we can learn from AIT”.
He added, “Among various collaborative works, we look forward to seeking AIT’s expertise in curriculum development, research grant proposal, capacity development of faculty, staff and students, among others.”

Participants in this MoU ceremony from AIT included AIT President Dr. Eden Woon; Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal; Dean of School of Engineering and Technology (SET) Prof. Dieter Trau; Dean School of Environment Resources and Development (SERD), Prof. Vilas Nitivattananon; Director of Office of International Affairs (OIA) Mr. Shawn P. Kelly; Deputy Director of Office of Public Affairs (OPA) Mr. Sanjeet Amatya and Coordinator of OIA Dr. Sumana Shrestha. Similarly, Vice Chancellor Prof. Punya Prasad Regmi represented AFU.

AFU is the first government technical university in Nepal. The university aims at producing highly skilled human resources required to work on quality research and development in agriculture, veterinary and animal sciences, forestry, and fisheries. AFU’s mission is to produce world-class human resources through education, research, and extension.
