9 November 2022- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the CIC Technology and Consultancy JSC (CIC) to enable cooperation for conducting knowledge transfer and technical support activities in the fields of structural engineering and software development.

The activities under the scope of the MoU includes knowledge transfer seminars on topics involving structural engineering (structural performance-based design, wind tunnel testing, and structural health monitoring) and allied fields such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), software applications in structural engineering, and training on CSI software and relevant structural engineering topics for engineers in Vietnam.

In addition, the cooperation also extends to structural engineering (structural performance-based design, wind tunnel testing, and structural health monitoring) and software development projects in Vietnam.

Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, AIT President, highlighted AIT’s role as a pioneer institution to help meet the region’s growing needs for advanced learning in engineering, science, technology, management, research, and capacity building. Apart from the three schools, AIT has dedicated centers like AIT Solutions to carry out research, outreach, and academic activities. He said, “AIT Solution’s core strength is structural engineering and software development, which can complement CIC’s strength in the application of information technology throughout the construction industry. This collaboration will initiate various joint activities with CIC in conducting knowledge transfer seminars on Building Information Modeling, Structural Engineering, and Software Applications in Structural Engineering. I am confident that this partnership will be mutually beneficial and successful.”

Dr. Naveed Anwar, Vice President for Knowledge Transfer at AIT, stressed the possibility of collaboration beyond CSI and said, “Our work at AIT, especially in software development instruction and application in buildings, bridges, and other structures will be of mutual interest to both sides. We are also embarking on several initiatives in AIT that will require computational development in software and basic technologies, especially in BIM. I hope we will also move ahead with joint projects utilizing each other’s expertise.”

Mr. Dang Duc Ha, Chairman of CIC, expressed delight regarding the cooperation and hoped it will lead to a win-win relationship. He said, “We are hopeful to achieve our desired goal with the strengths of both organizations. From CIC, we can focus on software development and applying ICT technology in construction. These strengths can be applied in Vietnam and Thailand. We hope to get support from AIT.”

Dr. Phung Van Dong, Director at AIT Centre in Vietnam (AIT-CV), said that the focus will now be on exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation between CIC and AIT Solutions. He said, “AIT Solution is an excellent outreach of AIT which connects with the industries and community partners to utilize AIT’s expertise in engineering, technology, infrastructure, and knowledge transfer. CIC, on the other hand, is a renowned company that provides information technology solutions in the construction field in Vietnam. So I believe that our corporation will be effective and beneficial. We must work hard to support both sides to promote and realize cooperation.”

Mr. Thaung Htut Aung, Director of AIT Solutions said, “We are hoping to collaborate in future knowledge transfer activities and consulting projects in the areas of structural engineering, software development, and also in the fields of the application of software not just in Thailand and Vietnam but in the entire region.”

AIT Solutions reached out to CIC Technology and Consultancy, Vietnam in July 2022 to discuss the possibility of working together in the areas of structural engineering and software applications in structural engineering. Following this AIT Solutions had a series of online meetings and discussions with the team from CIC including Mr. Dang Duc Ha.
