The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 14th November 2022. The MoU was signed between AIT President Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto and Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman, UGC for staff capacity building at UGC, Sri Lanka during President Yamamoto’s mission to Sri Lanka.

The purpose of this MoU is to strengthen collaboration between the UGC and AIT to promote academic cooperation in co-sponsoring scholarships for academics faculty from the 17 Sri Lankan State Universities under the UGC purview to complete their M.Phil and Master studies at AIT.
Chairman of UGC Senior Prof. Sampath welcomed AIT President Prof. Yamamoto and stated that UGC has been a very selective in establishment the partnership with other universities/ institutes. In fact, this is only the fifth umbrella agreement that UGC has signed with foreign universities. And therefore, it shows the importance UGC places on the academic excellence of AIT’s postgraduate programs.
AIT President Prof. Yamamoto expressed his sincere thanks to UGC Chairman and informed that AIT highly appreciate to be one of key partners with UGC and we looked forward to a fruitful collaboration.

Also attending the ceremony were Senior Prof. Chandana P. Udawatte, Vice Chairman and Ms. Srimathi Wijewardena, Deputy Secretary to Vice Chairman. From AIT, the ceremony was also attended by Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs and Ms. Sirikate Owasit, Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs.
