December 31, 2022- To address the growing concerns of overfishing in Tanzania, a Mariculture Techniques Training program was successfully conducted from March 1 to December 31, 2022. The initiative aimed to equip ten government officials from the Department of Fisheries, Government of Tanzania, with essential skills and knowledge in mariculture.

The training, organized by the Aquaculture and Aquatic Resource Management (AARM) program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), provided a comprehensive curriculum to prepare officials for sustainable seafood farming. The program focused on imparting advanced mariculture techniques to combat the imminent threats posed by overfishing.

The training enhanced the official’s understanding of mariculture practices. The curriculum covered various aspects, including cultivating seafood organisms, breeding the practice of sustainable farming methods for marine species, and utilizing cutting-edge technologies in aquaculture, among others.
The participants engaged in hands-on training sessions, site visits, and interactive workshops, gaining practical experience in mariculture management.

The program fostered collaboration between experts, government officials, and industry leaders to create a network focused on implementing sustainable aquaculture practices.
