AIT President made a courtesy visit to Mr. S. Janaka Sri Chandraguptha, Secretary, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka

On 13th February 2023, AIT President made a courtesy visit to Mr. S. Janaka Sri Chandraguptha, Secretary, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, and AIT alumnus who graduated Master in International Business 2002.
The proposal on Professional Capacity Development Programs for the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka prepared by AIT Extension was discussed during the meeting and in principle accepted by the Ministry. Mr. Janaka informed that the Ministry will seek necessary funding from agencies in Sri Lanka to support their staff to do the training through AIT Extension during the latter part of this year.
Also attending the meeting from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Lakshmi C. Somatunga, Additional Secretary, Public Health Services.

AIT signs MoU with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ), Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 13th February 2023. The MoU was signed between AIT President Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto and Prof. Upul Subasinghe, Acting Vice Chancellor of USJ on staff capacity building at USJ campus, Sri Lanka during President Yamamoto’s mission to Sri Lanka.
The purpose of this MoU is on the human resource capacity building for academic staff to enroll Master’s degree program at School of Management at AIT for August 2023 and January 2024 intake.
Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Upul provided a welcome remark and brief background of the University and thanked AIT for this opportunity to strengthen the collaboration with USJ.
AIT President Prof. Yamamoto informed that as part of AIT’s mission, we continue to develop highly qualified and committed professionals through our postgraduate studies program, and we are honored to partner with one of the premier Management Institute in Sri Lanka.

AIT President made a courtesy visit to Hon. Ali Sabry, Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka on 14th February 2023 during President Yamamoto’s mission to Sri Lanka.
AIT President Prof. Yamamoto thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their kind assistance in facilitating the approval of the Memorandum of Understanding between AIT and the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka which was signed in November 2022 with regards to human resource capacity building for young academics faculty from the 17 Sri Lankan State Universities under the UGC purview to complete their M.Phil and Master studies at AIT.
Hon. Minister acknowledged that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to support the partnerships AIT has established in Sri Lanka.

AIT signs MoU with the University of Vocational Technology, Sri Lanka (UNIVOTEC)

On 14th February 2023, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC), Sri Lanka signed a mutual expression of intent to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed between AIT President Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto and Prof. Ranjith Premalal De Silva, Vice Chancellor, University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) on academic staff capacity building during President Yamamoto’s mission to Sri Lanka.
The purpose of this MoU is on the human resource capacity building for academic staff to enroll Master degree programs at any three schools at AIT for the August 2023 and January 2024 intake.
AIT President Prof. Yamamoto expressed his appreciation to Senior Prof. Ranjith and further stated that he was aware of the close relationship between UNIVOTEC and AIT in the past wherein many UNIVOTEC staff came to AIT to pursue their Master and Doctoral studies. They successfully completed and went back to serve UNIVOTEC.
Furthermore, many Sri Lankan alumni graduated from AIT and went back to serve their countries holding high-level positions such as Vice Chancellors, Deans, Heads of State Universities in Sri Lanka, and top management in corporate sectors. Prof. Yamamoto believed this would be a good opportunity to continue providing assistance towards the human resource development of academic staff from UNIVOTEC.
Prof. Ranjith expressed his appreciation to AIT President. As an alumnus of AIT, he will do his best in his capacity as Vice Chancellor to implement this scholarship program. Also attending the meeting was Eng. (Dr.) Sanath Panawennage, former Board Member, UNIVOTEC and Director General & CEO, Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies.

AIT President meets with Dr. Chamindalal Sujeewa Lewangamage, Project Director, Science and Technology Human Resource Development Project (STHRDP) funded by ADB, and two Deputy Project Directors

AIT President Prof. Yamamoto during his mission to Sri Lanka on 14th February 2023 met with Dr. Chamindalal Sujeewa Lewangamage, Project Director, Science and Technology Human Resource Development Project (STHRDP) funded by ADB, Dr. Chathuranga Bamunuarachchige, Deputy Project Director, Rajarata University, and Dr. Uditha Wijewardhana, Deputy Project Director, Sri Jayewardenepura University.
AIT President Prof. Yamamoto thanked Dr. Sujeewa for his assurance and intention to approve the budgets through STHRDP under ADB through the request from universities in selecting AIT Extension for their training programs. Furthermore, he thanked the two Deputy Project Directors, Dr. Chathuranga and Dr. Uditha for coordinating and informing on the requirements for the training programs. Prof. Yamamoto looked forward to seeing the implementation of these training programs in the coming month.
