AIT and AIUB renew partnership aiming for more collaborative activities

1 March 2023: The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) renewed their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 1 March 2023. The agreement extends the 20-year partnership between the two institutions and enables further cooperation in the field of academics, capacity building, and research. The activities under the scope of the MoU include a capacity-building Ph.D. partnership program, collaboration on joint research activities, seminars, workshops, and other academic exchanges, training, and programs. 

Since the first partnership agreement was signed in December 2003, the two institutions have been engaging in various academic and co-curricular activities and developing a robust educational environment that enables a positive and sustainable impact. 

Highlighting that AIT and AIUB have similar missions, AIT President Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto said, “I am confident this MoU will pave a strong pathway for us to move more effectively in the future with more collaborative activities.”

Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, AIUB Vice Chancellor, said, “Our collaboration with AIT has been fruitful so far. Not only will this partnership help us grow and become stronger, but it will also focus on bringing constructive change in the long run.”

The officials also discussed the best course of action moving forward and potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions. AIT and AIUB have agreed to move ahead with various initiatives, including student exchange, curriculum development, and advanced research.

The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is a private university established in 1994. The event was also attended by Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Dieter Trau, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology and Director of AIT Entrepreneurship Center; Mr. Shawn Kelly, Executive Director; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director, International Affairs; Mr. Sanjeet Amatya, Director, Public Affairs; Mr. M. Zia Islam, Special Assistant to the President for Marketing & Recruitment and Ms. Indra Kumari, Senior Program Officer from the Office of International and Public Affairs.
