29 April 2023 – The team from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), consisting of Dr. Indrajit Pal, Associate Professor and Chair of Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM), an interdisciplinary program under School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) and School of Engineering and Technology (SET), along with Dr. Anirban Mukhopadhyay, DPMM Affiliated Faculty and Senior Research Associate in the Living Delta Hub Project have successfully conducted an in-person session at the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2023 in Vienna, Austria from 23-28 April 2023.

The session titled “NH11.3 Delta and Estuarine Risk and Resilience in Changing Climate” was co-convened by the AIT team and Dr. Jens Ehn, Associate Professor from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and Dr. Mohammad Heidarzadeh, Associate Professor from the University of Bath, UK.
On April 27th, 2023, a total of nineteen oral presentations and ten poster presentations focusing on various aspects of deltas were delivered. The onsite and online sessions provided a platform for experts to discuss delta socio-ecological systems, livelihoods, resilience, biogeochemistry, geophysical modeling, and more. The Living Delta Hub, through its interesting oral presentations and poster sessions, made significant contributions to the EGU 2023 Delta specific session.
In addition to the AIT team, doctoral students from the Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation, and Management (DPMM) program, namely Mr. Bui Phan Quoc Nghia, Mr. Neelay Srivastava, Mrs. Anushree Pal, Mr. Ganni Satya Venkata Sai Aditya Bharadwaz, Ms. Annlouise Genevieve Castro, and DPMM Master’s student Mr. Ayush Baskota, actively participated in the event virtually. Their involvement in international conferences like this not only expands their knowledge but also enhances their skills and professional experience in the field.
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2023, with its extensive participation of over 18,000 scientists and scholars worldwide, is a powerful platform for disseminating the knowledge gathered from the Living Deltas project.
