AIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand

25 May 2023 – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 18th May 2023. The MoU was signed between AIT President Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto and Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Deputy Governor-Power Business at AIT campus.

The purpose of this MoU is to strengthen collaboration between AIT and EGAT in relation to a potential scholarships arrangement for two years master’s degree program in the School of Engineering &Technology (SET), School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) and School of Management (SOM) for the human resource development and capacity building of EGAT employees.

Executive Director, Office of Advancement & Alumni Affairs, Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe gave his welcome remarks and thanked Dr. Jiraporn who put her tireless effort in getting this MoU signed. Dr. Jiraporn is AIT alumnus graduated Master of Engineering from Energy Planning and Policy in 1995 and Doctor of Engineering from Industrial Engineering in 2006 as well as the President of AIT Alumni Association Thailand Chapter. He further thanked EGAT in placing trust with AIT as the provider of human resource capacity building of EGAT staff. 

Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal mentioned on the past relationships and collaborations between AIT and EGAT. He further stated that AIT is happy to play a role on EGAT’s journey in enhancing the human resources development of their employees.

AIT President, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto expressed his sincere appreciation and thanked Dr. Jiraporn and EGAT team on the preparation of this MoU. He was very pleased that the MoU was signed and ready to be implemented from this August 2023 intake. Prof. Yamamoto stated AIT is strongly confident that we will offer state-of-the-art education, research and training in technology, management, societal development and especially sustainability and energy related areas for human resources development of EGAT staff.

Deputy Governor-Power Business, Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum informed that EGAT management officials and herself were honored to be here at the MoU signing ceremony. She further stated realizing that EGAT is now in the competitive challenge era, the organization main objective is to build up EGAT employees’ capacity to be a high-performance organization. She strongly believed through this partnership with AIT, EGAT will be able to develop on their skills related to sustainable energy and look forward to expanding other collaborations between two parties in the future.
