20 June 2023 – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), China, renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen their academic and scientific collaboration on 20 June. The initial MoU was signed in 2016, and since then, both institutions have engaged in various collaborative activities.
The scope of this renewed MoU encompasses several areas of possible cooperation, including joint degree program, student exchange program, exchange of faculty members and researchers, research development projects, and organizing joint workshops, seminars, conferences, and exhibitions.

AIT President, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, said, “AIT provides an ideal environment for NPU to collaborate and promote appealing research programs in the region. Using AIT’s resources and network, NPU can establish valuable partnerships and engage in research and technology development with experts from diverse fields.” He further emphasized the alignment between AIT’s commitment to achieving sustainable development goals and NPU’s objectives. “NPU possesses robust capabilities in technological and economic education research. Through this collaboration, both institutions can share their technological advancements and research findings, contributing to the overall progress towards sustainable development,” he added.
NPU Vice President, Chengyi Hou, admired AIT’s alignment with UN SDG 2030 and its zero carbon goal, which resonates with NPU’s commitment. He highlighted that NPU is actively working towards the same goal. “There is a significant potential for collaboration across various areas, and NPU looks forward to exploring additional opportunities for cooperation and mutual advancement,” he said.
The NPU delegates attending the ceremony included Dan Xiang, Deputy Director of the Office of Global Engagement; Zenglei Wang, Deputy Director of the Department of Human Resources; Minqiao Zhang, Section Manager of the Department of Human Resources; and Xiaoyanqi Han, Program Manager of the Office of Global Engagement.
Representatives from AIT were Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Abdul Salam, Dean of the School of Environment, Resources, and Development; Mr. Shawn Kelly, Executive Director of the Office of International and Public Affairs; Mr. Sanjeet Amatya, Director of Public Affairs; and Ms. Duanduan Danielle Duan, Coordinator of International Affairs in the Office of International and Public Affairs.
