AIT SET and Tra Vinh University Forge Path to Global Academic Collaboration

31 August 2023: In a significant move towards fostering academic collaboration and global educational opportunities, the Asian Institute of Technology’s School of Engineering and Technology (AIT SET) and Tra Vinh University (TVU) convened a meeting on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The meeting, held at the SET Meeting Room, marked the beginning of what promises to be a fruitful partnership between AIT SET and TVU. The primary aim of this meeting was to identify potential avenues for collaboration between AIT SET and TVU.

The meeting was attended by notable individuals representing both AIT and TVU. Tra Vinh University was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, who serves as the Rector, Dr. Phung Van De, the Director of International Education Institutes, Dr. Huynh Thi Hong Nhung, the Vice Dean of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Khanh, the Director of the International Affairs Department. AIT  was represented by Prof. Sangam Shrestha, the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology and Co-Director of the Global Water & Sanitation Center, Ms. Indra Kumari, Senior Program Officer at OIPA, and Ms. Alistina Shrestha, Manager in MKT, RCT, and Digital Strategy in SET.

During the meeting, both institutions engaged in extensive discussions regarding potential collaboration areas. These discussions included an introduction to the respective strengths and offerings of AIT SET and TVU. One significant discussion was about unified degree programs, to be further deliberated with Special Degree Programs (SDP) Office. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the importance of capacity

development among TVU faculty members, providing scholarships for Ph.D. candidates. An intriguing proposition discussed during the meeting was the prospect of AIT Faculty teaching courses at TVU, enhancing the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the institutions.

As part of the immediate next steps, both universities are moving forward with drafting a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formalize their collaboration. This collaborative effort between AIT SET and TVU signifies a shared vision for providing high-quality education and fostering global opportunities for students. The partnership’s ultimate goal is to enhance educational experiences for students and contribute to the development of skilled professionals in various fields.
