20 October 2023 – A delegation led by the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Government of Macau, comprising representatives from seven Macau universities, visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 20 October 2023 with the aim of promoting cooperation and strengthening innovative collaboration. The visit marked a significant step towards fostering academic partnerships and enhancing educational exchange between Macau and AIT.

The universities represented in the delegation included:
- University of Macau
- Macao Polytechnic University
- Macao Institute for Tourism Studies
- Macau University of Science and Technology
- City University of Macau
- University of Saint Joseph
- Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau

During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between AIT and City University of Macau. The MoU outlines the framework for cooperation between the two institutions and emphasizes their commitment to collaboration in various fields. The key areas of cooperation specified in the MoU include:
- Reciprocal exchange of faculty and students for study and research purposes.
- Collaborative research projects and the exchange of academic papers.
- Development of joint educational programs.
- Assistance in organizing seminars, conferences, forums, and workshops.
- Exchange of academic publications and information.
- Collaboration in cultural projects for specific areas of development.
- Participation in various educational and academic activities and programs.

AIT President, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, expressed enthusiasm for the collaborative opportunities with Macau universities. He highlighted the shared commitment to international cooperation that would benefit students and faculty alike, emphasizing AIT’s dedication to supporting innovation, education, research, and industry collaboration, with the ambitious goal of achieving carbon emission status by 2030.

Prof. Ip Kuai Peng, Vice Rector of City U Macau, also expressed great expectations for the cooperation. He acknowledged AIT’s strengths in engineering, technology, and management sciences, which align well with City University courses in data sciences, computer sciences, urban science, and management and business. He expressed confidence that this partnership will enable both institutions to enhance teaching, scientific research, and exchange opportunities in the future.
The delegates expressed gratitude for their commitment to fostering stronger bonds between Macau’s higher education institutions in Macau SAR and those in Thailand. The group highlighted the importance of educational exchange and cooperation in addressing regional and global challenges. The visit and the signing of the MoU represent a significant milestone in promoting academic collaboration and knowledge exchange between Macau SAR and AIT, with the goal of creating a brighter future for students and faculty from both regions.

From AIT, the meeting was also attended by Prof. Abdul Salam, Dean of the School of Environment, Resources, and Development; Dr. Chutiporn Anutariya, Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology; Mr. Shawn Kelly, Executive Director of the Office of International and Public Affairs; Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary; Ms. Chalita Letwinyu Director of Office of Thailand Affairs; Mr. Sanjeet Amatya, Director of Public Affairs; and Ms. Danielle Duan, Coordinator of International Affairs.
