12 November 2023: The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) played a pivotal role as a co-organizer in the successful “Green Technology Expo 2023,” hosted by the Thailand-Sino Association of Sciences and Technology (TSAST) and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade–Shanghai (CCPIT-Shanghai). This event, co-hosted by the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand, Chinese Academy of Sciences Innovation Cooperation Center Bangkok (CASICCB), and China Chamber of International Commerce, organized by Z Infinity Company, took place from November 9th to 12th at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC). AIT’s active participation underscored its commitment to advancing sustainable technologies and addressing global climate challenges.

Themed “Towards the transition to newer, cleaner, sustained evergreen technology,” the Green Technology Expo 2023 played a key role in supporting global climate policies and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The focus was on Thailand’s vision to become a regional hub for electric vehicle (EV) production within the framework of the Bio-Circular-Green Economy. Attendees benefited from services related to green energy consumption, business and technology matching, and insightful discussions at the Green Tech Investment Forum.

AIT’s Vice President for Administration Mr. Russell Rein, attended the opening ceremony representing AIT. Dr. Wenchao Xue, Director of the Belt and Road Research Center at AIT, Associate Professor, the Environmental Engineering program under the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Change (EECC), and Dr. Ekbordin Winijkul, Head of EECC, were the keynote speakers and moderator, respectively, in the “Green Technology Investment Forum” representing AIT on November 9th and 10th.
AIT engaged in impactful activities such as productive business negotiations, collaborative technology development, and the presentation of a prominent booth (B01) showcasing expertise in green mobility, energy-saving technologies, and waste management.
AIT’s involvement in events like the Green Technology Expo highlights its dedication to finding sustainable solutions and fostering global partnerships for a greener and more sustainable future.
Thailand is a signatory to the Paris Agreement on climate change and made a ratificationat the international conference on the global climate change in Paris with a goal to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 20-25% by 2030 in order to transition to a Low Carbon Society. Thailand also launched taxation measures, investment incentives, promotional programs forautomakersand end users to enhance development and adoptionof electric vehicles (EVs) as the country set its sight to become the manufacturing hub for electric vehicles in the region. The Ministry of Energy has renewable and alternative energy development plans with the CO2 emissions per unit of electricity generation targeted to be halved by 2037. The launch of the “2023 Green Technology Expo” will help maximize developmentof future-focused technologies and innovations that are essential to shaping the future in the next decade. The Ministry of Energy is also working in collaboration with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and PTT to move forward with the Next Generation Automobile development policy that will define the direction of business development in the future.
