1 December 2023: The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Chongqing Renewable Energy Society (CRES), China, have formalized their commitment to collaborative efforts in the fields of energy and environmental protection through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The MOU outlines a comprehensive cooperation mechanism aimed at promoting non-governmental exchanges between AIT and CRES. The primary focus of this collaboration is on technology transfer projects within the energy and environment sectors. Key initiatives include encouraging donations from Chinese companies for product displays, creating a technology transfer mechanism at AIT in collaboration with entities like the United Nations, and implementing training programs focused on technology transfer for Southeast Asian and South Asian markets.

For academic exchange initiatives, plans include providing AIT students with chances for short-term fellowships/internships in CRES, and facilitating personnel exchanges, such as AIT scholars conducting research projects in Chongqing and CRES staff participating in AIT training programs.

Furthermore, the MoU involves enhancing network collaboration between AIT and CRES by supporting the involvement of stakeholders and affiliated business partners in projects and events across both countries.

At the signing ceremony, Professor Kazuo Yamamoto, President of AIT, underscored the pivotal role of renewable energy in addressing the carbon neutrality challenge, extending its impact beyond the AIT campus to regional and global contexts. “Collaborative efforts are essential to effectively confront this significant issue” he added.
