AIT and Yamaguchi University Forge  Partnership for Academic Excellence and Collaborative Research

22 December 2023: A significant partnership agreement has been formally established between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), and the Center for Research and Application for Satellite Remote Sensing at Yamaguchi University (YUCARS) on December 21, 2023.

The primary objective of this collaboration is to foster academic and educational cooperation while cultivating amicable relations between the two esteemed institutions. The agreement encompasses a range of collaborative initiatives based on principles of equality and reciprocity, including the exchange of faculty and administrative staff members, the facilitation of graduate student exchanges as well as the sharing of academic information and publications. In addition, conducting colloquia, lectures, and seminars, collaborating research endeavors with the joint presentation of outcomes, and exploration of other mutually agreed forms of cooperation between the two institutions. 

Professor Masahiko Nagai, Director of YUCARS, highlighted the presence of AIT alumni currently contributing to YUCARS. He emphasized the potential for collaboration, particularly in the realms of research and academia, expressing anticipation for a productive partnership and the utilization of AIT’s expertise.

Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of SET, highlighted the diverse collaboration opportunities arising from this partnership, mutually benefiting both institutions. He revealed SET’s ongoing efforts to establish a new AI lab and expressed eagerness for support from YUCARS in this venture.

This partnership marks a significant step towards enhancing collaborative efforts, knowledge exchange, and joint research initiatives between YUCARS and SET, paving the way for a promising and mutually beneficial relationship.

AIT representatives Prof. Nitin K. Tripathi, Professor, RS-GIS/SET and Director, Special Degree Programs; Mr. Shawn P. Kelly, Executive Director of the Office of International and Public Affairs (OIPA); Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director of International Affairs, OIPA; Mr. Sanjeet Amatya, Director of Public Affairs, OIPA; and Ms. Sirima Sirimattayanan, Senior Program Officer, International Affairs, OIPA also attended the event. 

Yamaguchi University (YU) is a national university in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. YU traces its origins back to Yamaguchi Kodo, a private school, founded in the late Edo Period (1815). Throughout the years the university has expanded into a comprehensive university that boasts nine faculties and eight graduate schools. YU’s Center for Research and Application for Satellite Remote Sensing (YUCARS) is officially established in 2017. YUCARS aims to further develop satellite remote sensing utilization techniques, as well as train scientists and engineers in the field, spreading satellite remote sensing utilization across the entire globe.
