GWSC Hosts SPDSSB Workshop: Advancing Sanitation Data Governance in Bangladesh

6 December 2023: From December 4th to 6th, 2023, the Global Water & Sanitation Center (GWSC) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) hosted the “Strengthening of Public Data Systems for Sanitation in Bangladesh (SPDSSB) Workshop”. Aligned with the SPDSSB program initiated by the Local Government Division, the workshop focused on establishing a centralized and efficient ‘Sanitation Data Command Center (SDCC)‘.

Esteemed guests, including Mr. Md. Akhter Hossain, Principal Coordinator, SDG Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Emadadul Hoq Chowdhary of the Local Government Division, Dr. Md. Anwar Ullah from the Statistics and Informatics Division, and Ms. Neelima Thota from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), played crucial roles in shaping the workshop’s direction, highlighting the government’s commitment to the initiative.

The workshop engaged various organizations, such as Aspire to Innovate, Innovative Solution Private Limited, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, Department of Public Health Engineering, Statistics and Informatics Division, Streams Tech Limited, SNV Bangladesh, Tiller, ITN-BUET, Athena Infonomics, CWAS, and eGov Foundation, India. Discussions encompassed past achievements, strategic planning for future initiatives, and sub-national data system development. A central focus was the creation of a robust data governance framework for the SDCC, with the Global Water & Sanitation Center coordinating efforts and Miro facilitating interactive collaboration.
