AIT Board of Trustees Meeting held on Campus

18 January 2024: The AIT Board of Trustees meeting was held on January 18, 2024, at the AIT campus under the chairmanship of Dr. Anat Arbhabhirama. The meeting covered a range of significant topics. The chair extended a warm welcome to the new Board and the Executive Committee members and thanked all the members for their continued support and commitment to the institute. 

Updates on Board of Trustees and Executive Committee Membership

Board of Trustees

Mr. Permsuk Sutchaphiwat, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) in Thailand

Permanent Secretary Mr. Permsuk has held significant roles at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI),  having served as Chief of the Coordinating Unit for National Reform Promotion, Strategy, and Cohesion and as Cabinet and Parliamentary Liaison Officer. Additionally, he has served as Director of the Bureau of Policy and Strategy, Assistant Permanent Secretary, and Inspector General within the Ministry. Notably, he assumed the role of Secretary General of the Office of Atoms for Peace from 2020 to 2023.

H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Poimboeuf, Ambassador of France to Thailand

Ambassador Poimboeuf has served in various capacities at the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs. His extensive experience includes serving as Director of the French Institute in Taipei, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the French Embassy in London, Director of Human Resources at the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador to Cambodia, and holding key roles in the Inspection Office and as Deputy Inspector General at the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Donald M Ugsang, President, AIT Alumni Association (AITAA)

Dr. Donald M. Ugsang completed his Master’s degree in Natural Resources Management (major in Remote Sensing and GIS) and Doctoral degree in Environmental Remote Sensing from AIT in 1995 and 2000 respectively, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowship at Kyoto University, Japan, in 2002-03. He has over 20 years of professional work experience in the government and private sectors, academic and research institutions, bilateral organizations (GTZ, JICA) and the United Nations (FAO, UN-ESCAP). Dr. Ugsang has served the AITAA Mother Chapter as an Officer and Executive Committee member for eight consecutive years from 2016 to date.

Executive Committee 

Dr. Bindu N. Lohani

Dr. Lohani, an AIT alumnus and Trustee, currently serves as Co-Chair of the Board’s Faculty Relation Committee and is a member of the AIT Strategy Implementation Task Force. Additionally, he holds the position of AIT Distinguished Adjunct Faculty. Formerly, he held the role of Ranking Vice-President at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development, and earlier served as Vice President for Finance & Administration. Dr. Lohani is also a Distinguished Fellow at Centennial Group, actively contributing to the Emerging Market Forum in the USA and engaging in various global advisory roles and boards.

Mrs. La-ead Kovavisaruch

Mrs. La-ead, an AIT alumna, currently holds the position of Chief Investment Officer at Dusit Thani Public Company. Her extensive professional background includes serving as CEO of Vimarn Suriya Co., Ltd, Vice President of New Business Development at InTouch, Senior Managing Consultant at IBM, and roles with the Charoen Phokphand Group and Siam Cement Co. Ltd. Additionally, she has contributed as a visiting lecturer at the Mahidol University International College (MUIC).

Board Staff Relations Committee

H.E. Mr. Tumur Amarsanaa, AIT Trustee, and Ambassador of Mongolia

Ambassador Tumur Amarsanaa has been appointed as Co-Chairperson of the Board Staff Relations Committee. Ambassador Amarsanaa has an extensive and illustrious diplomatic career, previously serving as Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs overseeing international law and treaties.  He is also a certified lawyer, affiliated with the Mongolian Bar Association, the International Law Association of Mongolia, and the Cooperation Council on Combating Money-Laundering and Terrorism Financing.

Newly appointed Ambassadors 

The Board also welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador of Canada to Thailand, H.E. Ms. Ping Kitnikone, and the Ambassador of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli, who were attending their first meeting.

H.E. Ms. Ping Kitnikone, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand

Ambassador Ping Kitnikone, with prior roles as Consul General in Mumbai and Ambassador to Vietnam, has held assignments in Beijing, Taipei, and Bangkok, with concurrent accreditation to Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. In Ottawa, she contributed to divisions like the International Financial Institutions, Policy Development, and North Asia Commercial Relations. Her recent position was as the Director General of the Locally Engaged Staff Bureau.

H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal

Ambassador Dhan Bahadur Oli, with diverse diplomatic roles, served as Under Secretary at the UN, International Organizations, and International Law Division, MOFA. His positions include Director at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu, Under Secretary at the Policy and Planning Division, Charge d’Affairs a.i. at the Embassy in Dhaka, and Director General at the Department of Consular Services. Notably, he contributed to the Northeast Asia Division, showcasing a distinguished career in international diplomacy and foreign services.

AIT Student Union Representative

Mr. Aditya Goaundalkar, AIT Student Union Representative 

Mr. Aditya Goaundalkar, the AIT Student Union Representative for the January 2024 semester was also welcomed. Mr.  Goaundalkar is pursuing his Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management, at the School of Management (SOM).
