19 February 2024: The Asian Institute Of Technology (AIT) and the University Of The Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate cooperation and establish a strategic partnership on 19 February 2024. The MoU aims to foster collaboration between the two institutions through various avenues such as academic initiatives, research endeavors, professional development training programs, consultancy services, workshops/seminars, joint projects, and other related activities.
Under the scope of this MoU, both institutions have outlined various collaborative activities, including the development and implementation of the Capacity Building Ph.D./Master’s Partnership Program and the International Unified Bachelor’s—Master’s Degree Program. Additionally, they will conduct joint conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional development training programs, facilitate visiting student exchanges and education camps for UPLB and AIT students, collaborate on research activities and publications, and explore other potential projects of mutual interest.
Professor Sangam Shrestha, representing the AIT School of Engineering and Technology (SET), and Professor Abdul Salam, representing the AIT School of Environment, Resources, and Development (SERD), attended the MoU signing ceremony held at UPLB. AIT President, Professor Kazuo Yamamoto, signed the MoU on behalf of AIT, while Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr. signed on behalf of UPLB. Mrs. Amalia Canullas, Assistant to the Dean of SET, also participated in the ceremony.
During the event, discussions were held regarding potential collaboration opportunities, including unified programs, dual programs, and faculty exchange. The UPLB delegation included Dr. Marion Lux Castro, OIC Dean, Assistant Professor Roderick L. Catriz, Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Assistant Professor Christian Vaso, Chair of the Department of Engineering Science of the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, Dr. Ronilo Jose Flores, Associate Dean of the Graduate School, and Ms. Maria Dominique C. Velasco and Mr. Christian A. Dimapilis of the Office of International Linkages.
In June 2023, as part of the efforts of the Office of International and Public Affairs, a delegation from UPLB visited AIT to explore potential collaborations between the two institutions. During the visit, the UPLB delegation engaged with AIT officials in discussions aimed at fostering partnerships between the two universities.
