1 February 2024: The AI Bootcamp 2024, a collaborative initiative between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation (CSII), held from January 29th to February 1st, was a workshop filled with innovation, collaboration, and transformative learning experiences. This immersive journey brought together 60 first-year Bachelor’s degree students from CSII, as they delved into the vast realm of artificial intelligence (AI) to explore its potential in creating smarter and more sustainable societies.
Guided by distinguished AIT faculty members, staff, and mentors (Masters and Ph.D. Students of AIT), participants engaged in collaborative activities, workshops, and a hackathon focused on the theme “AI for Smart and Sustainable Society.” These activities facilitated the practical application of high-level AI concepts, deepening the understanding of AI’s potential impact on various industries and its transformative role in society. Participants were challenged to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges across domains such as waste management, energy conservation, transportation, healthcare, education, and business.
In her welcome remarks, Dr. Warinya Chemnasiri, Director of CSII Academic Affairs, emphasized, “Innovation is not just about technology; it’s a journey that involves people and possibilities. As we begin this AI bootcamp, let’s embrace the knowledge, connect with our diverse team, and pave the way for a future where innovation and technology converge to shape a better society.”
Dr. Chutiporn Anutariya, Camp Director and Associate Dean of the AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology; encouraged participants, stating, “As we embark on this journey together, let’s harness our energy, embrace collaboration, and dive into the realm of innovation. May these days be filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable experiences. Here’s to seizing every opportunity and shaping a brighter future together.”
Prof. Nitin Tripathi, Director, AIT Special Degree Program, emphasized, “As we commence on this journey together, let’s harness our energy, embrace collaboration, and dive into the realm of innovation. May these days be filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable experiences. Here’s to seizing every opportunity and shaping a brighter future together.”
The workshop activities included hands-on exploration of drones and AI, interactive AI literacy sessions, hackathon, movie night with reflective discussions, showcases of AI technology and research, a lively treasure hunt with GNSS, brainstorming and ideation sessions for the hackathon, and an AI quiz.
The AI Bootcamp delivered a comprehensive learning experience, enabling participants to grasp the fundamentals of AI and its applications across various domains. Through immersive sessions, attendees gained insights into AI’s transformative role in industries, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to spot opportunities for AI integration in their future careers. Engaging in collaborative activities, workshops, and a hackathon, participants honed their skills in applying AI concepts to real-world challenges. By the program’s end, individuals emerged with a broad understanding of AI’s significance, empowering them to actively contribute to discussions and initiatives shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
The event promoted learning through competition activities. During the hackathon, all 12 teams proposed solutions to the challenges presented. Two categories, hackathon solution and pitching, were awarded, along with a camp engagement and activity winner.
Giving closing remarks Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of the School of Environment and Technology, congratulated all participants and said, “It was a fruitful collaboration between CSII and AIT, meticulously crafted with lectures, hands-on exercises, and hackathons, offering invaluable assets for future careers.
