AIT and PTTEP Sign Landmark Agreement for Academic-Industry Collaboration

3 April 2024: The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 3 April, 2024 that aims to revolutionize collaboration between academia and the industry. The ceremony hosted at AIT is a significant milestone in the partnership between the prestigious educational institute and the leading energy company.

The MoU outlines a collaborative framework aimed at enhancing scholastic activities and research initiatives. The partnership will focus on critical fields such as structural geology, geochemistry, seismic processing, and several others, with the goal of bolstering educational excellence and innovation in energy and geological studies.

Professor Kazuo Yamamoto,  President of AIT, emphasized the longstanding collaboration between AIT and PTTEP, stating that the MoU would help further strengthen scholarly and educational exchanges. “Through this MoU, we hope to expand our collaborative horizons, providing our students with an enhanced learning experience through advanced research projects and seminars,” said Prof. Yamamoto.

Mr. Rangsan Bhengbhun, Senior Vice President of the Subsurface Technical Solutions Division, expressed his excitement about the partnership. He said, “This academic collaboration with AIT demonstrates PTTEP’s dedication to creating a knowledgeable and skilled workforce, which is essential for sustainable development in the energy sector in Thailand and Asia.”

Ms. Supamittra Danpanich, the Senior Vice President for the Subsurface Technical Solutions Division, has outlined the objectives of the PTTEP Subsurface University Energy Connect Project. She stated that this collaboration is aimed at bridging the gap between the energy industry and academia, with the goal of raising academic standards to an international level and developing an expert workforce in the energy sector.

The MoU signifies AIT and PTTEP’s joint commitment to advancing academic excellence and sustainable growth in the energy sector, with a promise of collaborative success and innovation.

The ceremony was attended by officials from both AIT and PTTEP. Kamonporn Inraikhing, VP of Technical Information System and Knowledge Management Department, along with other officials from PTTEP, attended the event. From AIT, Asst. Prof. Kuo-Chieh Chao, CIE Head Department, SET; Asst. Prof. Avirut Puttiwongrak, GTE Program Chair, SET; Ms. Chalita Lertwinyu, Executive Director, Office of Thailand Affairs; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director of International Affairs, OIPA, along with other officials, were present at the event.
