29 May 2024: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to establish cooperation between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Tepbac Joint Stock Company (TEPBAC), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The agreement aims to enhance the caliber of research and technical proficiency of both AIT and TEPBAC through the exchange of personnel, researchers, academic information, and documentation.

Under the scope of this MoU, potential activities include facilitating exchange endeavors tailored to the academic, research, and technical needs of AIT and TEPBAC. Specific initiatives include dispatching employees from Tepbac to AIT for proficiency training in shrimp disease testing techniques (PCR, real-time PCR), accommodating AIT students for research endeavors at Tepbac’s shrimp farm in Can Gio, and utilizing the company’s laboratories in Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, and Long An. Additionally, the agreement involves extending partial financial backing for select shrimp disease research projects conducted by AIT.
The agreement was signed by Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, President of AIT, and Dr. Luu Thi Thanh Truc, Senior Advisor of TEPBAC and an AIT alumna from the School of Environment, Resources and Development, Aquaculture and Aquatic Resource Management (Class of 2005).
Prof. Yamamoto expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am very pleased with this academia-industry collaboration. The planning and scope are promising, and I am confident this will be very fruitful.” Dr. Luu remarked, “I have realized there is a lot to learn, and this collaboration with AIT is exciting. With AIT’s expertise, we aim to achieve a lot.”
From TEPBAC, Dr. Truc was accompanied by Mr. Nguyen Ly Duy Quang and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Y. Representing AIT at the event were Prof. Abdul Salam, Dean of SERD; Prof. Avishek Datta, Head of the Department of FAB/SERD; Dr. Ha Thanh Dong, Assistant Professor/AARM/FAB/SERD; Mr. Shawn Kelly, Executive Director, Office of International and Public Affairs (OIPA); Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director of International Affairs, OIPA; Mr. Sanjeet Amatya, Director of Public Affairs, OIPA; and Ms. Indra Kumari, Senior Program Officer, International Affairs, OIPA.
