13 June 2024: The Asian Institute of Technology ranks in the global top 200 in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024 for its work to address humanity’s sustainability challenges.

The rankings released on June 12 assess universities’ performance against the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) based on indicators of research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.
AIT took three top 50 positions globally, ranking 12th in the world for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), 31st for SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and 50th for SDG 1 (No Poverty). AIT also ranked as the number 1 institution in Thailand for SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
London-based THE evaluated a record 1963 participating institutions, up an additional 350 universities from the previous year. AIT rose in ranking from 201-300 last year, and its rating went up to 85.3 (out of 100), which is the highest rating achieved for the institute in the last five years.
Additionally, AIT ranks within the global top 200 in SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

The overall ranking considers universities’ performance in their top three individual SDG categories and the mandatory category of SDG 17—Partnerships for the Goals. AIT participated in 12 out of the 17 SDGs.
The Impact Rankings was announced in Bangkok at the Global Sustainable Development Congress, co-hosted by Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation. The event brought together 3,000 global thought leaders and innovators to discuss urgent solutions to the sustainability emergency. Some AIT officials and faculty members attending the congress were in attendance for the ranking reveal.
