25 July 2024: On April 30, 2024, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samitivej Public Company Limited (SVH), Samitivej Sriracha Company Limited (SSH), and Samitivej Chonburi Company Limited (SCH). A formal handover ceremony was organized on July 25, 2024.
The purpose of this MoU is to enable cooperation between AIT, SVH, SSH, and SCH in exploring the possibility of creating AI models to analyze WiFi signals for various purposes, including fall detection, customer experience optimization, and intruder or abnormal behavior detection.
AIT President Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto commented, “This collaboration is more than just a technological endeavor. It is a testament to our shared commitment to harnessing the power of technology for the betterment of society. I am confident that through this partnership, we can make significant advancements in AI and healthcare.”
As part of the collaboration, SVH, SSH, and SCH will provide space inside their hospitals for the installation of devices supplied by AIT, which will be used to analyze WiFi signals. They will also supply the necessary facilities, WiFi signals, and internet connections for these activities and provide AIT with information on abnormal movement features and behaviors, along with details related to diseases and their severity.
AIT will provide and maintain the devices for de-identified data collection at its own cost, analyze the data gathered from the collaboration, and share the results of these activities with the participating institutions.
From SVH, the ceremony was attended by Dr. Surangkana Techapaitoon, Deputy CEO – Samitivej and BNH Group of Hospitals; Dr. Parit Plainkum, Assistant Hospital Director – Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital; Dr. Chanwit Chaisuriyaphun, Assistant Hospital Director – Samitivej Sriracha Hospital; Dr. Sirieak Kongsangdao, Orthopedic Surgeon – Samitivej Chonburi Hospital, and Ms. Pajaree Roengsamut, Executive Assistant. From AIT, attendees included Ms. Chalita Lertwinyu, OTA Executive Director; Prof. Attaphongse Taparugssanagorn; Ms. Nitjaree Wongluck, Administrative Officer, OTA, and Mr. U Aye Maw – Director – Always Medicare Co., Ltd (AIT alumnus).
