1 August 2024: The AI Bootcamp 2024, Season 2, was an event filled with innovation, collaboration, and transformative learning. Held from 29 July to 1 August, this initiative between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation (CSII) brought together 116 first-year Bachelor’s degree students from CSII.

The camp focused on introducing participants to various aspects of artificial intelligence, fostering hands-on learning, and encouraging innovative thinking through a structured hackathon challenge. They explored the vast world of AI and its potential to create smarter, more sustainable societies. Guided by AIT faculty, staff, and mentors (Masters and Ph.D. students of AIT), participants engaged in various collaborative activities and workshops.

In his welcome remarks, Prof. Nitin Tripathi, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs at AIT, encouraged everyone to channel their energy and work together on this journey. He stressed the importance of embracing innovation and hoped the workshop would be filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable experiences, inspiring everyone to seize opportunities and strive toward a brighter future.

The opening session was attended by CSII Executive Director, Professor Suchada Sukrong and Dr. Warinya Chemnasiri, Director of CSII Academic Affairs, along with senior faculty members of AIT and CSII.

The AI Bootcamp featured hands-on sessions with drones and AI, interactive AI literacy workshops, and a thrilling hackathon focused on AI for sustainability and social good. Participants explored cutting-edge AI technologies, enjoyed a treasure hunt using GNSS, and took part in brainstorming and ideation sessions. The event aimed to inspire and equip attendees with the skills to develop innovative AI-powered solutions for critical issues like energy consumption, waste management, and transportation efficiency. The camp showcased the transformative potential of AI in creating positive impacts on society and the environment.

Participants toured various AIT centers and labs, including the AIT Brain Lab, Drone Building Workshop, Geoinformatics Center, Hydraulics Lab, Advanced Robotics Lab, AI Center, Environmental Engineering & Management Lab, and Marine Plastics Abatement Lab. These visits provided insights into ongoing research and practical applications of AI.

At the closing session, Professor Emeritus Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Senior Advisor of CSII and former AIT President, highlighted the rapid changes brought by AI and the need for students to embrace them. He noted the invaluable experiences and teamwork cultivated in the boot camp, which prepared students for an AI-driven future. Expressing confidence in the lessons learned, he thanked everyone involved and expressed optimism for the students’ bright futures.
