1 September 2024 – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) proudly announces the appointment of Prof. Pai-Chi Li as its new President, effective 1 September 2024. He assumed the office on 2 September 2024.

Prof. Pai-Chi Li is a distinguished leader in the fields of electrical engineering and biomedical engineering. His remarkable contributions have earned him fellowships with IEEE, IAMBE, AIUM, and SPIE. He has also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Medical and Biological Engineering and held editorial positions with several prestigious journals, including Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology and IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control.
Prof. Li’s academic and professional achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the IEEE UFFC Distinguished Lecturer Award, IFMBE Otto Schmitt Award, IFMBE Vladimir K. Zworykin Award, and the Distinguished Research Award from Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology. His contributions to academia and industry have also been honored with the Dr. Wu Dayou Research Award, as well as the Academic Award and Distinguished Industrial Collaboration Award from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education.
Prof. Li completed his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1987, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering: Systems from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1990 and 1994, respectively. He began his career at Acuson Corporation in Mountain View, CA, before returning to National Taiwan University in 1997, where he has since been a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Institute of Biomedical Electronics and Bioinformatics. His current research interests focus on biomedical ultrasound, photoacoustics, and medical devices.
During the Presidential Handover Ceremony held on 22 August 2024, Prof. Li expressed humility and gratitude for the opportunity to serve as AIT’s new leader. He acknowledged the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, particularly in 2025, a transition year for the institute. Professor Li emphasized his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and continuing to build on the strong foundation laid by Professor Yamamoto.
AIT looks forward to the visionary leadership and innovative contributions that Prof. Pai-Chi Li will bring to the Institute as he begins his tenure as President.
