17 September 2024: Professor Sangam Shrestha, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Co-Director of Global Water & Sanitation Center (GWSC) at AIT and a faculty member in Water Engineering and Management (WEM), has been ranked No. 9 globally for Climate Change and River Studies by ScholarGPS, a leading scholarly analytics platform. This recognition places him among the top 0.05% of scholars worldwide, underscoring his exceptional contributions to research in these critical fields.

With an impressive portfolio of 173 publications and 5,623 citations, Professor Shrestha has significantly impacted the fields of water engineering and climate change adaptation. His work advances academic knowledge while addressing global challenges in water management and sustainability.

Prof. Shrestha, recognized for his research on climate change impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation in the water sector, has been a faculty member at AIT since 2009. He has held various academic leadership roles, fostering international collaborations and establishing dual degree programs, student exchanges, and internships. He also serves on advisory boards of international organizations and editorial boards of respected journals.
As the co-director of the Global Water & Sanitation Center at AIT, which is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Prof. Shrestha plays a pivotal role in addressing global water and sanitation issues. His leadership and vision continue to shape initiatives that tackle some of the most urgent challenges in this area.
Throughout his career, Prof. Shrestha has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and presented at more than 100 conferences. In 2021, he was named one of the world’s top climate scientists on the Reuters Hot List and has been among the top 2% of influential scientists globally for four consecutive years (2020–2023) in Stanford University’s rankings.
