24 October 2024 – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) co-organized the Green Tech Expo 2024 from October 24-26 at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC). Under the theme Driving Sustainable Solutions: Green Technology for Business,” the event brought together leaders, researchers, and industry experts worldwide, showcasing advancements in green technology aimed at accelerating sustainable business practices and enhancing operational efficiency.

AIT’s Belt and Road Research Center (BRRC) played a crucial role in the event. In collaboration with the Thailand-Sino Association of Sciences and Technology (TSAST), the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade–Shanghai (CCPIT-Shanghai), Burapha University, the China Chamber of International Commerce, and the Guangzhou Industry High-Quality Development Association, this event aimed to provide a diverse platform for dialogue, technological exchange, and the cultivation of partnerships to advance sustainable development objectives across Asia and beyond.

Alongside AIT’s dedicated booth, a cluster of prominent green tech companies joined as exhibitors. These included INC SQUARE Co., Ltd., Drone Entry (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Supumps Environmental Technology (Changzhou) Co. Ltd., Anhui Pushi Ecological Environment Engineering Co. Ltd., Lihe Technology (Hunan) Co. Ltd., Chongqing Renewable Energy Society, Chongqing Yijiaxing HVAC Engineering Co., Ltd., and the China-Thailand Green Eco-Environmental Technology Industrial Park.

At the Expo, Thailand’s 27th Prime Minister, Hon. Abhisit Vejjajiva, was among the distinguished visitors to the AIT booth. He showed keen interest in the pioneering research on display, as well as in AIT BRRC’s recent initiatives and achievements. A key highlight was the work of AIT doctoral researcher Mr. Peerawit Janta from the Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) program. His research focuses on developing Engineering Cementitious Composites (ECC) that incorporate repurposed clothing materials into cement production. This innovative approach not only significantly reduces textile waste but also promotes a circular economy by repurposing discarded textiles. Additionally, it empowers local communities to adopt sustainable practices, contributing to reduced environmental impact.

Mr. Yifan He, a doctoral candidate from AIT EEM, presented his research on converting activated sludge into biochar for use in advanced electrode materials for water deionization. His research highlights a “waste-to-resource” approach, transforming activated sludge—an often problematic byproduct of wastewater treatment—into valuable biochar. This biochar is essential for sustainable water purification technologies, representing a closed-loop method of resource management.

AIT’s active co-organization and participation in the Green Tech Expo in Thailand, for the second consecutive year, aims to set new benchmarks for excellence in green technology and innovation. The initiative contributes to global sustainability discussions and advocates for actionable solutions. With its expertise and leadership in sustainable development, AIT continues to inspire forward-thinking change and supports the global mission for a carbon-neutral future. The EXPO highlighted AIT’s commitment to fostering impactful partnerships and promoting a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
