Mr. Chawalit Tanomtin, CEO of Right Tunnelling PCL Supports the Renovation of a Single-Unit Student Dormitory

On October 8, 2024, Mr. Chawalit Tanomtin, Chief Executive Officer of Right Tunnelling Public Company Limited, and a distinguished AIT alumnus (Master’s in Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering, 1979), generously donated THB 200,000 to support the refurbishment of a single-unit student dormitory in Dorm F at AIT. This contribution is part of AIT’s ongoing efforts to enhance the living environment for students, ensuring they have a comfortable and conducive space to focus on their academic pursuits.

Mr. Chawalit Tanomtin has been working for more than 35 years in Geotechnical Construction, Underground Construction, especially in Hard Rock Excavation. In 2000, he founded the “Right Tunnelling Public Company Limited” to engage in the Geotechnical construction business, especially in open rock excavation and underground rock excavation. Since then, the company has been expanding and growing in the construction business with clients from local government agencies and the private sector.

AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li expressed his gratitude to Mr. Chawalit for his ongoing contributions to AIT and emphasized the vital role that distinguished alumni like Mr. Chawalit play in strengthening AIT’s mission not only through monetary donations but also through the inspiration they provide to the broader AIT community. He stated that Mr. Chawalit’s kind support will be instrumental in enhancing the living environment for both current and future students. He also thanked Mr. Chawalit for his past support towards Master’s scholarships, thereby highlighting his commitment to empowering students through education.

Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Executive Director of OAAA, expressed his appreciation for Mr. Chawalit’s longstanding relationship with AIT. He acknowledged Mr. Chawalit’s consistent support over the years, including scholarships for Geotechnical and Earth Resources Engineering (GTE) students, funding towards the purchase of equipment for the GTE laboratory, the AIT Reserve Fund, and in-kind contributions to AIT. Mr. Sanjeev stated that in addition to the ongoing support, AIT is keen on future collaborations with Right Tunnelling PCL by offering customized short-term executive development training programs catered specifically to the needs of the company employees.

Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of SET, extended his gratitude and recognized Mr. Chawalit’s continued involvement with AIT. He emphasized that the GTE program’s growth, including the doubling of student enrollment in the August 2024 intake, is made possible by alumni contributions. Prof. Sangam also shared AIT’s interest in developing flexible Master’s and Ph.D. programs tailored to the company’s needs, enhancing staff capacity-building.

Mr. Chawalit expressed his continued connection to AIT, acknowledging it as a center for education and collaboration. He reflected on the lessons learned from his business, highlighting that creating value for others is paramount, a principle that motivates his actions to offer support for students’ well-being at AIT. Mr. Chawalit also expressed his pride in being able to give back to AIT and emphasized his commitment to continuing his support in the years to come.

Also present at the ceremony were Mr. Koson Kongdang, Deputy Managing Director for Operation 1, and Mr. Chaturong Disthanuson, Project Manager from Right Tunnelling PCL, along with Mr. Bhaskaran Jacob, Senior Advancement Officer, OAAA from AIT.
