25 November 2024: The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Punjab, India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 25 November 2024 to strengthen inter-institutional collaboration in academics, research, training, and faculty and staff development.

The partnership aims to enhance cooperation between the two institutions to promote regional economic growth and sustainable development. Key areas of focus include faculty, staff, and student exchanges, joint curriculum development, co-supervised postgraduate programs, and mutual sharing of training and partnership opportunities. The MoU also emphasizes collaborative research, the organisation of scientific events, and the exchange of technology transfer practices to foster knowledge dissemination and entrepreneurship.
Prof. Pai-Chi Li, President of AIT, remarked, “This marks the beginning of a promising new chapter. With our strong faculty and significant student presence from India, there are many collaborative opportunities we can explore. We look forward to deepening this partnership.”
Joining the signing virtually, Prof. Mani Kant Paswan, Director of SLIET, remarked, “This MoU underscores our mutual commitment to enhancing our programs. By combining the strengths and resources of both institutions, I am confident it will lead to meaningful outcomes.”
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by representatives from both institutions. From SLIET, Prof. Dr. Surinder Singh, Dean (Research and Consultancy), and Prof. Dr. Parmjit Singh Panesar, Professor of Food Engineering and Technology, were present. From AIT, the attendees included Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology and Co-Director of the Global Water Sanitation Center; Prof. Anil K. Anal, Program Chair of FEBT/FINH/SERD; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director of International Affairs, OIPA; Ms. Kritagya Regmi, Media and Communication Officer, Public Affairs, OIPA; Mr. Dipesh Dhoj GC, Digital Media Officer of Public Affairs, OIPA and Ms. Naphassorn Chaimongkol, Program Officer, International Affairs, OIPA.

The Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) is a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) set up in 1989, to provide Technical Education in emerging areas of Engineering & Technology. The Institute has acquired the status of Deemed-to-be – University in the year 2007 (Notification No.F.9-42/2001-U.3). SLIET caters to the requirements of technical manpower at various levels by adopting the concept of modular system in imparting Technical Education with emphasis on practical training in industry.
