20 November 2024: Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited the Asian Institute of Technology’s (AIT) booth at the Royal Military Academy Exhibition held at Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy (CRMA) on November 19, 2024. During her visit, she bestowed a token of appreciation to AIT, which was received by the AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li, for the Institute’s participation in the event and its efforts in showcasing impactful research projects.

Representing AIT at the event were Prof. Weerakorn Ongsakul from the Department of Energy and Climate Change of the School of Environment, Resources and Development and RTG Faculty Representative; Prof. Kunnawee Kanitpong from the Department of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering of School of Engineering and Technology; Ms. Shwe Yi Myint Myat, a master’s student in the Development, Planning, Management, and Innovation (DPMI) program within the Department of Development and Sustainability, SERD; Ms. Chalita Lertwinyu, Executive Director of Thailand Affairs and Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary.

Held on November 18–19, 2024, the exhibition aimed to foster and expand academic collaboration among CRMA, educational institutions, and public and private agencies. AIT presented two research projects at the event:
- Investigation on the Causes of Public Bus Accidents
Prof. Kanitpong highlighted her research into the causes of public bus accidents by analyzing data from 68 severe cases. The study proposed actionable measures for improving bus safety, including speed control policies, enhanced driver training programs, stricter safety enforcement, and better vehicle standards. - Energy Access and Human Capital in Karen and Karenni Refugee Camps
Ms. Myat, presented a case study examining energy access and its impact on human capital in Karen and Karenni refugee camps in Thailand. Supervised by Dr. Thi Phuoc Lai Nguyen, the research revealed energy access disparities and their implications for health, education, and living conditions, urging policymakers to prioritize energy equity for humanitarian purposes.
AIT’s booth served as a platform to showcase its cutting-edge research and innovations, receiving positive engagement from attendees through presentations by its esteemed faculty and students.
