SET Open House Showcases Academic and Research Opportunities at AIT

2 November 2024: The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) hosted its annual Open House on November 2, 2024, offering prospective students an engaging preview of its academic programs and vibrant campus life.

The event welcomed over 100 prospective students from 29 universities, providing an in-depth look at SET’s master’s and Ph.D. programs. Attendees explored details about courses, scholarships, and student support services while experiencing the vibrant AIT campus firsthand.

A major highlight of the Open House was the opportunity for participants to engage directly with SET faculty and staff, gaining insights into cutting-edge research, faculty expertise, and diverse research opportunities. Lab tours offered hands-on experiences, showcasing innovative projects and demonstrating how SET aligns with students’ academic and career aspirations. Networking sessions facilitated meaningful interactions with current students, alumni, and industry professionals, providing valuable perspectives on career opportunities and the vibrant SET community.

Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of SET, welcomed attendees and highlighted the importance of such events in guiding students toward informed decisions about their educational journeys. He encouraged active engagement with faculty and staff to explore academic interests and future aspirations. Prof. Sangam emphasized SET’s commitment to impactful research through world-class faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and its strong alumni network that enhances career opportunities. He also underlined SET’s dedication to addressing global challenges through sustainable development research.

The Open House showcased booths from all four SET departments: Civil and Infrastructure Engineering (CIE), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE), and Water Resources and Environmental Engineering (WREE).

Information about AIT’s English Entry Test (EET) was also shared, with some attendees opting to take the free on-site test. The day concluded with a lively treasure hunt across the AIT campus, offering exciting prizes and adding a fun, interactive element to the event.

The event received positive feedback, with participants commending the lab visits and overall experience. Many attendees suggested making it a recurring event, emphasizing its value in offering meaningful insights and opportunities. The SET Open House 2024 gave prospective students a well-rounded introduction to AIT’s academic excellence, research innovations, and vibrant campus life, leaving them excited about future opportunities with the school.
