MoU Signed Between AIT and University of Maryland, Baltimore County, USA

10 December 2024: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), USA, to enhance academic and research collaboration. The MoU was signed by AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li and UMBC Provost & Senior Vice President Dr. Manfred H.M. van Dulmen. 

Dr. Ramana Kumar Vinjamuri, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at UMBC, visited AIT on December 9 to officially hand over the signed MoU and discuss potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions.

The MoU outlines several key areas of cooperation, including the exchange of theses, teaching materials, and other scientific and technological literature; collaborative research and creative achievement; exchange of faculty, staff, and scholars for lecturing, advanced studies, and research; organization of joint workshops, symposia, and events on topics of mutual interest; and potential student exchange programs. 

During the visit, discussions focused on potential collaboration in dual-degree programs and joint research in medical and robotic engineering. The meeting was attended by key representatives from AIT, including Prof. Nitin K. Tripathi, Acting VPAA, Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean SET and Co-Director of GWSC; Prof. Manukid Parnichkun, Academic Program Chair and Professor MMI/SET; Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat, Department Head ICT and Associate Professor RS-GIS/SET; Prof. Dieter Trau, Professor ISE/SET and Director EC; Dr. Chutiporn Anutariya, Associate Professor ICT/SET; Dr. Chantri Polprasert, Assistant Professor, CSIM/ICT/SET; Dr. Branesh M. Pillai, Assistant Professor MDE/SET; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director of International Affairs, OIPA; Ms. Sirima Sirimattayanan, Senior Program Officer, International Affairs, OIPA; Mr. Ranadheer Mandadi and Mr. Arthur Lance Gonzales, Program Officers of OSDP.

This partnership underscores the mutual commitment of AIT and UMBC to promote educational and cultural exchange while advancing innovation and collaboration in higher education.

Prior to the meeting, Dr. Vinjamuri also gave a seminar on Synergy-based brain-machine interfaces for human-robot interaction, which was attended by faculty, staff and students.
