AIT Board of Trustees Convenes on Campus

6 February 2025: The AIT Board of Trustees convened on 6 February 2025 at the AIT campus under the chairmanship of Dr. Anat Arbhabhirama. The meeting welcomed new members, including Prof. Pai-Chi Li, AIT President; H.E. Mr. Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, Ambassador of People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Thailand; Dr. Sudha Murty,  Member of Parliament, India; and Dr. Roshan Shrestha, Deputy Director of the Global Growth and Opportunity Division at Gates Foundation. Also joining were Mr. A. M. Abzal Ilahi, AIT Student Union President, and Professor Allen L. Robinson, Dean of the Walter Scott Jr. College of Engineering at Colorado State University who participated as an observer.

The Board approved the appointments of two new members: Gen. Dr. Boonsrang Niumpradit, an AIT Hall of Fame inductee, former President of the AIT Alumni Association, and a former Supreme Commander of the Thai Armed Forces; and Prof. Supasawad Chardchawarn, Rector of Thammasat University. Additionally, H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, was appointed as the new Co-Chairperson of the Board Student Relations Committee. The Board also welcomed Prof. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), as the Ministry’s representative on the Board.

During the meeting, the Board received several key reports.  Mr. Chaiwat Kovavisarach, Executive Committee Chairman, presented a comprehensive update followed by a progress report from Dr. Suwit Khunkitti, Chairman of the AIT Strategy Implementation Task Force. Prof. Li provided an overview of his activities since assuming office, including updates on the recruitment process for two new Vice President positions. Reports from the Faculty and Staff Relations Committee were also reviewed.     

The Board also discussed an amendment to the AIT Charter. It was agreed that the amendment requires careful review in consultation with Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and MHESI before submission to the Government of Thailand.

Furthermore, the Board approved the proposed 2025 Budget and acknowledged the 2024 estimated figures.
