SERD Welcomes Dr. Duanghathai Buranajaroenkij to the Gender and Development Studies (GDS) Program

6 Feb 2025: The School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) is pleased to welcome Dr. Duanghathai Buranajaroenkij as an Assistant Professor in the Gender and Development Studies (GDS) Academic Program under the Department of Development and Sustainability (DDS).

Dr. Buranajaroenkij is a distinguished scholar with extensive expertise in gender studies, peace processes, development, and politics, with a strong focus on feminism, human rights, and conflict transformation.

Prior to joining AIT, she served as an Associate Professor at the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University, Thailand.

With a deep commitment to gender and peacebuilding, Dr. Buranajaroenkij has played a pivotal role in shaping policies at both national and international levels. From 2023 to 2024, she actively contributed to the development of Thailand’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS). Her dedication to conflict transformation and policy advocacy for marginalized communities in Thailand’s southern border provinces earned her the Woman Outstanding Award in Advancing the Cause of Peace (2022) from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Thailand.

At AIT, Dr. Buranajaroenkij will be teaching the following courses:

  • Gender and Human Rights,
  • Gender, Power, and Politics,
  • Women, Peace, and Security,
  • Qualitative Research Methods.

Her presence at SERD further strengthens AIT’s commitment to fostering gender equality, social justice, and sustainable development through interdisciplinary research and education.
