20 February 2025 — In a significant step toward international academic collaboration, Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have formalized a strategic partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The ceremony, held at AIT’s campus, marks the beginning of a dynamic alliance designed to foster innovation, cross-cultural exchange, and sustainable development across Asia and beyond.

The MoU establishes a framework for joint research initiatives and faculty and student exchanges, focusing on pioneering fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, sustainable engineering, and food science.

Mr. Russell Rain, AIT’s Vice President for Administration, highlighted the synergy between the two institutions: “By merging TUST’s technological excellence with AIT’s commitment to sustainable development, we aim to create scalable societal impact. This partnership will also help attract more talented Chinese students to AIT.”

Professor Jia Qijun, Vice President of TUST, emphasized the transformative potential of the collaboration: “By integrating TUST’s strengths in applied sciences with AIT’s regional connectivity, this partnership will equip students with the skills to tackle global challenges such as climate change and food security.”

Following the signing, representatives from both institutions engaged in discussions to outline immediate priorities. Key areas of focus include establishing joint research hubs, launching student mobility programs, and fostering industry partnerships to align academic programs with emerging market needs.

The event concluded with a ceremonial exchange of gifts, symbolizing mutual respect and a shared long-term vision. Attendees from AIT included Prof. Yuosre Badir, Dean of the School of Management; Dr. Geoff Chao, Associate Professor and Department Head of Civil & Infrastructure Engineering; Prof. Anil Kumar Anal, Department of Food, Agriculture, and Bioresources; and Ms. Danielle Duan, Head of Emerging Markets International Cooperation in the Office of International and Public Affairs.

Through this strategic alliance, TUST and AIT are poised to drive academic and research cooperation, shaping a smarter and more sustainable future.
