AIT and ITRI Forge Strategic Partnership for Joint Research and Academic Collaboration

28 March 2025: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan on 27 March 2025, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership grounded in shared academic and industrial interests. The agreement aims to foster collaborations and exchanges in areas of mutual expertise.

Prof. Pai-Chi Li, President of AIT, remarked, “ITRI’s contributions to technological innovation and economic development are globally recognized, and we believe their mission strongly aligns with AITs—particularly in sustainable development and multidisciplinary research. By combining our strengths, we hope to initiate impactful collaborations that address global challenges. We look forward to exploring joint research and educational exchange opportunities that can lead to a lasting and mutually beneficial partnership.”

Mr. Stephen Su, Senior Vice President of ITRI, stated, “This signing marks not just the beginning of a formal collaboration but the continuation of a shared vision between ITRI and AIT. With AIT’s strengths in engineering, science, technology, and management, and ITRI’s commitment to innovation for a better future, we see great potential in working together—especially in talent incubation, joint research, and technology development. As we align our complementary strengths, we look forward to building impactful initiatives that contribute meaningfully to regional progress and global sustainability.” 

Under the MoU, both institutions will explore a broad range of collaborative activities. These include faculty, researcher, and administrative exchanges in the areas of education, training, research, and outreach. The collaboration also encompasses joint postgraduate education and training, hosting student interns, and organizing conferences, symposia, and scientific meetings on topics of shared interest. Both parties will promote the exchange of academic materials and information, and provide opportunities for graduate and professional student exchanges during academic and summer terms. Furthermore, AIT and ITRI will explore the development of joint research programs, including the potential launch of a joint master’s degree or certificate program.

The ITRI delegation included Dr. Eric Y. Chuang, Vice President and General Director of the Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories (BDL); Dr. Morris Liang, Deputy General Director of the Green Energy and Environment Research Laboratories (GEL); Ms. Chaoyin Chi, Deputy General Director of the Industry, Science, and Technology International Strategy Center (ISTI); Mr. Milton Deng, International Affairs Officer at ISTI; Ms. Karen Ma, Deputy International Affairs Officer and Director of the ITRI Southeast Asia Office; Ms. Shu-Hung Lee and Dr. Marta Lin, both Research Managers at ISTI; and Mr. Sawetachote Wichachai, Marketing Coordinator Manager at the ITRI Southeast Asia Office.
