AIT SET Strengthens Ties in China, Promotes CSC Scholarships

March 12, 2025 – In a strategic initiative to enhance the academic footprint of the AIT School of Engineering and Technology in China, Dr. Wenchao Xue, Associate Professor in the Environmental Engineering Management Program, Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology (SET), AIT, undertook a week-long promotional tour across Northern China from March 2–9, 2025.

The visit aimed to strengthen institutional ties, promote scholarship opportunities, and engage with faculty and students at leading Chinese universities. It included information sessions, special lectures, and high-level discussions with universities and educational associations.

The objectives of the official trip included:

  • Promote AIT SET’s academic programs, Chinese Government Scholarships (CSC), and research opportunities.
  • Engage with faculty members and students from Chinese universities.
  • Explore collaboration opportunities with academic institutions and non-government education platforms.
  • Identify potential student recruitment channels and academic partnerships

Key Engagements and Outcomes

Academic Outreach at Chinese Universities

Dr. Xue delivered information sessions and special lectures at Henan Normal University, Minzu University of China, and Jilin University. These sessions attracted over 200 students and faculty members, covering AIT’s scholarship programs, research opportunities, and self-funded programs.

Dr. Xue engaged with faculty members and students from engineering, environmental sciences, and public administration faculties, strengthening recruitment efforts and academic partnerships at Henan Normal University.

She also discussed AIT and its opportunities with faculty members and students from environmental sciences at the Minzu University of China followed by a Q & A session.

Discussions were held regarding a school-level Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SET and Jilin University to facilitate future collaborations.

Additionally, an information session was conducted to introduce academic programs and opportunities at SET.

Meeting with the China Association for Non-Government Education

Dr. Xue also met with representatives from the China Association for Non-Government Education. Discussions centered on:

  • Direct recruitment of postgraduate students from private universities.
  • Faculty capacity-building programs (Flexible PhD program).
  • Joint development in disciplines between AIT and identified private universities in China, focusing on joint programs, research activities, and collaborative initiatives.

AIT has been invited to participate in the Chinese Private Education Forum in April 2025, a key platform to expand engagement with Chinese institutions.

Next Steps & Future Collaboration

The successful mission reinforced AIT’s commitment to academic excellence and global partnerships. Moving forward, the AIT School of Engineering and Technology will:

  • Maintain active engagement with Chinese universities for student recruitment and joint research.
  • Strengthen ties with the China Association for Non-Government Education to expand outreach.
  • Promote CSC scholarship opportunities and enhance collaboration with key institutions.
  • Explore faculty exchange programs and MoU opportunities with target universities.

This initiative is a significant step further solidifying AIT’s position as a preferred destination for aspiring scholars and researchers.
