14 May 2025: Six professors from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have been named among the highly ranked scholars by ScholarGPS, a U.S.-based scholarly analytics platform that evaluates academic performance based on publications, citations, and h-index impact across disciplines.

This global recognition highlights AIT’s research excellence and the impactful contributions of its faculty in tackling complex global challenges across diverse academic fields.
ScholarGPS identifies the top 0.05% of scholars worldwide, spanning 14 broad fields, 177 disciplines, and over 350,000 distinct specialties. Rankings are based on both lifetime academic achievement and research output over the past five years, with scholars evaluated across four categories: overall (all fields), specific field, discipline, and specialty.
All six AIT professors were honored in their respective specialties, with four recognized for lifetime achievements and two acknowledged for their recent five-year contributions:
Lifetime:
- Emeritus Prof. Chettiyappan Visvanathan – Ranked #37 in Waste Management
- Emeritus Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh – Ranked #143 in Environment (Systems)
- Prof. Phan Minh Dung – Ranked #76 in Artificial Intelligence
- Prof. Mukand S. Babel – Ranked #115 in River
Prior 5 Years:
- Prof. Sangam Shrestha – Ranked #16 in River and #31 in Climate Change
- Assoc. Prof. Djoen San Santoso – Ranked #3 in Occupational Stress
