Commemorating three decades of a robust partnership between AIT and Hungary, fostering collaboration and strengthening ties

On June 6, 2025, H.E. Dr. Sándor Sipos, the Ambassador of Hungary to Thailand and Ms. Kamilla Balla, Chargé d’affaires a.i. at the Embassy of Hungary in Bangkok, met with Prof. Pai-Chi Li, President of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The meeting aimed to enhance academic activities and research collaboration between Hungary and AIT, promoting cooperation across various areas of research and education.

Since the first AIT-Hungary collaboration in 1994, this year marks a memorable 30-year-long partnership, reflected in various academic collaborations with institutions such as Budapesti Muszaki Egyetem, Szechenyi Istvan University, and Ludovika University of Public Service.

H.E. Dr. Sándor Sipos emphasized that AIT is one of the most active and successful partnerships in Thailand and highlighted numerous opportunities for AIT to collaborate with Hungarian universities and institutions. 

Prof. Pai-Chi Li expressed gratitude to the Embassy of Hungary for its continued support and longstanding relationship with AIT. He offered special thanks for the collaboration initiative with Ludovika University of Public Service, which has since evolved into a strong partnership in academic activities related to Water Sciences. This enduring collaboration embodies an approach to higher education and research, contributing significantly to society and the region.

During the visit, the delegation also met with key AIT officials, including Prof. Manukid Parnichkun, Vice President for Academic and Research; Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of School of Engineering and Technology and Co-Director of the Global Water & Sanitation Center; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director of International Affairs, Office of International and Public Affairs (OIPA); and Ms. Sirima Sirimattayanan, Senior Program Officer, International Affairs, OIPA. The meeting aimed to discuss potential joint academic research projects and exchange programs. A presentation on AIT’s institutional profile, ongoing collaborative projects, Erasmus+ International Mobility Programs, and current initiatives highlighted the institute’s commitment to global education and research excellence. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in water sciences and environmental sustainability, as well as in technology and innovation, where Hungary and AIT have significant expertise.

Since its inception in 1994, the partnership between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Hungary has thrived, fostering numerous academic and cultural exchanges. This visit marks a significant milestone in fortifying the relationship between Hungary and AIT, paving the way for future collaborations that will benefit both institutions and their communities.
