3 July 2025 – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) welcomed General Dr. Boonsrang Niumpradit, an AIT Hall of Fame inductee and former Supreme Commander of the Thai Armed Forces, for an official visit on July 3, 2025. This visit follows his recent appointment to the AIT Board of Trustees in February 2025.
Gen. Dr. Boonsrang, who also served as President of the AIT Alumni Association, was warmly received by AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li, along with the AIT leadership team.

President Li expressed his appreciation to Gen. Dr. Boonsrang, welcoming his insights, suggestions, and questions, not only as a Board Member but also as a valued partner in AIT’s shared mission.
Reflecting on his long-standing association with AIT, Gen. Dr. Boonsrang stated, “My journey with AIT commenced in the 1970s, and it continues to hold a significant place in my heart. AIT’s mission to support marginalized communities resonates deeply with me, particularly given my own background from a humble village and my aspiration to create a positive impact.”
He emphasized the enduring relevance of AIT’s commitment to inclusive development, drawing connections to his military experience. “In the military, we learn the critical importance of supporting individuals, particularly in underserved and remote areas, even during peacetime. The work that AIT is undertaking is essential not only for education but also for fostering both national and global development.”
The visit included presentations by the Deans of AIT’s three schools: the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), and the School of Management (SOM). Attendees included Prof. Siddharth K. Jabade, Vice President for Administration and Development (VPAD); Prof. P. Abdul Salam, Dean of SERD; Prof. Yuosre Badir, Dean of SOM; Dr. Ekbordin Winijkul, Acting Dean of SET; Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary; Ms. Chalita Lertwinyu, Executive Director of the Office of Thailand Affairs; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director of the Office of International and Public Affairs (OIPA); Dr. Namita Sravat, Deputy Institute Secretary; and Mr. Sanjeet Amatya, Director of Public Affairs, OIPA.

Gen. Dr. Boonsrang also visited several centres and lab on campus, including the Global Water and Sanitation Center (GWSC), where he was welcomed by Mr. Agus Nugroho, Chief Operating Officer; the AI Simulation Lab, where he was briefed by Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat, Head of the ICT Department, SET; and CSI Bangkok, where he was received by Dr. Naveed Anwar, CEO where he explored AIT’s ongoing research and innovation efforts.
