In 2022, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) signed a three year Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with MPRL E&P Pte. Ltd, Myanmar to launch a capacity development partnership program. The agreement enabled scholars to pursue a one-year Master’s degree in the Geo-Exploration and Petroleum Geoengineering Program (GEPG). Under this partnership, 13 scholars have already completed their studies at AIT.
Building on this success, AIT and MPRL E&P renewed their partnership in April 2025 through a new MoA, which will support 12 additional scholars for the next three years. Under the renewed agreement, scholars will enroll in different programs across AITs three schools: School of Engineering and Technology, School of Environment, Resources and Development and School of Management. Four scholars have already joined in August 2025 semester in Sustainable Energy Transition and Natural Resources Management programs (SERD) and Business Analytics & Digital Transformation and International Finance (SOM).

The final batch of the scholars, under the first MoA, who enrolled in the August 2024 Semester, graduated in July 2025. This group included two staff from MPRL E&P Pte. Ltd and two staff from Myanmar’s Ministry of Energy. Their journey at AIT equipped them with in-depth knowledge of upstream oil and gas operations, effectively preparing them for excellence in the industry. Beyond academics, they actively engaged in outreach activities, including an exchange programs in Japan, which broadened their career paths and supported their professional development with confidence.

As they step into the next phase of their career, the scholars carry with them the knowledge and meaningful experiences gained at AIT.
Scholars Reflections
Phyo Pyae Sone Win (Mechanical Engineer)

My year as a Mechanical Engineer at AIT was a period of intensive learning and growth. The tailored curriculum offered both technical depth and a comprehensive understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry. The rigorous academic environment sharpened my time management and my decision-making abilities, while extracurricular activities such as “Campus Walk for Campus Clean-Up Day III,” deepened my sense of community and sustainability.
A key highlight was joining the global Project-Based Learning (gPBL) program at Shibaura Institute of Technology in Japan. This international exposure broadened my perspectives introduced me to new technologies and improved my teamwork and leadership skills. I graduated not only with a degree, but with a renewed sense of purpose, and confidence for my career ahead.
Thiha Ko Ko (Petroleum Engineer)

Studying my one-year Professional Master’s degree in GEPG at AIT was more than an academic pursuit; it was a transformative journey. The program challenged me, inspired me and connected classroom learning to real-world industry challenges.
Field trips in Chiang Mai, Thailand, brought geological concepts to life, while the gPBL program in Japan broadened my academic and cultural horizons. On campus activities such as the AIT Mini Olympics and the Campus Walk for Campus Clean-Up Day III revealed the true AIT spirit of teamwork, unity, and shared responsibility.
Reflecting on my journey, AIT gave me much more than a degree. It gave me confidence, perspective, and friendships that continue to inspire me. For me, AIT was not just a milestone, it was a life-changing experience.
Saw Thaw Thi Mu (Mechanical Engineer)

From August 2024 to July 2025, I had the privilege of completing my Master’s degree in GEPG. The supportive professors guiding us not only in academics but also in professional development, making my time at AIT truly life-changing.
The multicultural campus enriched me with diverse friendships, while the AIT Library became a favorite space for group work and research.
Outside the classroom, I balanced studies with swimming at the AIT pool, which kept me refreshed. One of the highlights was the student exchange program in Japan, where I learned about disaster management and experienced a new culture. Looking back, AIT polished my skills, built my confidence, and prepared me for my career. I am grateful to be a part of the AIT family.
Thant Zin (Petroleum Engineer)

My academic journey at AIT was filled with transformative experiences that strengthened both my knowledge and personal growth. The program was highly relevant to my field, instilling confidence as I move forward in my career.
Beyond academics, AIT fostered a balance of study and community life. I participated in the AIT Mini-Olympics, organised by the AIT Student Union, as a part of the Myanmar football Team, winning bronze medal, and celebrating teamwork with my peers. Another defining experience was the Japan Exchange Program with Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) where I learned about advanced earthquake technologies, explored city of Tokyo and forged cross-cultural friendships.
Being part of AIT has been a source of pride. The comprehensive education, international exposure, and vibrant campus life have prepared me to face future challenges with confidence and a commitment to contribute positively to society and the environment.
The MPRL E&P scholars expressed deep gratitude to AIT for shaping and empowering their futures. AIT remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of global professionals through impactful and sustainable partnerships.
