The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) received a generous contribution from Prof. Sriram Narasimhan towards the “Rooms for Change Campaign” – Alumni support towards better living spaces in the Student Dormitories.

Prof. Sriram Narasimhan is an AIT alumnus who graduated with a master’s degree in Water Resources Engineering in 1996. He is currently serving as Professor and Vice Chair of Graduate Affairs at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA.

AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li extended his appreciation to Prof. Sriram for his support to the Institute. He highlighted that AIT actively engages with its alumni to keep them informed about new initiatives, such as the current single-unit dormitory renovation. He noted that alumni are vital to AIT’s mission of creating a supportive campus environment and simultaneously reinforcing the strong bond alumni share with their alma mater.

Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Executive Director of Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Sriram for his donation towards the renovation of the student dormitory, noting its importance in providing students with a comfortable, safe, and supportive living environment. He stated that in addition to the ongoing support, AIT is keen on leveraging his expertise and insights through the Alumni Talk Series platform, where prominent alumni deliver talks on emerging and high-impact topics.

Prof. Sriram stated that his experience at AIT is one of the most memorable moments of his life. It was his first time living or travelling outside of India, and he had the opportunity to meet some incredible people, several of whom remain his close friends today. The standard dormitories at AIT are very convenient, as they eliminate the hassle of searching for quality accommodation near the campus. However, improvements are needed, particularly in terms of cooling during the summer and warmer/humid months (which, in Bangkok, last about 10 months of the year). He feels fortunate to be able to give back to AIT in a small way, especially since he has benefited immensely from his education and experiences in AIT.

AIT expresses its sincere appreciation for the unwavering dedication and active engagement of its alumni, whose continued support is instrumental in advancing the Institute’s mission and shaping its future. The naming of this room serves as a lasting symbol of the significant and meaningful contributions AIT alumni make toward the Institute’s growth and legacy.
