General Dr. Boonsrang Niumpradit Appointed Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees

At its meeting held on 29 January 2026, the Board of Trustees of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) unanimously approved the nomination of General Dr. Boonsrang Niumpradit, Vice Chairman of the Board, as the new Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees.

General Dr. Boonsrang becomes the twelfth Chairman of the Board. His predecessors include Professor Puey Ungpakorn, Professor Oscar Mapua, Dr. Thanat Khoman (Chairman Emeritus), M.L. Birabhongse

Kasemsri, H.E. Mr. Anand Panyarachun, Dr. Tej Bunnag,  H.E. Mrs. Merete Fjeld Brattested (Acting Chairperson), Mr. Nopadol Gunavibol, Dr. Subin Pinkayan, Dr. Tongchat Hongladaromp, and Dr. Anat Arbhabhirama.

An alumnus of AIT, General Dr. Boonsrang holds a Doctor of Engineering in Structural Engineering from AIT (1978) and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1972). His distinguished career includes service as Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and as Force Commander of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (2000–2001), where he led over 8,000 peacekeepers from 36 countries – a period he has described as the most memorable of his life.

He has also held senior leadership roles in Thailand’s legislative and defense sectors, including appointments at the Royal Thai Military Academy, as Director of the Strategic Research Institute, and Director of the National Defence College. General Dr. Boonsrang continues to contribute to international cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy and is widely respected for his patriotism, public service, and global engagement.

A former President of the AIT Alumni Association, he is also an AIT Hall of Fame inductee, reflecting his enduring commitment to the Institute and its mission.
