On 27 February 2026, AIT hosted a significant in-kind donation agreement signing ceremony between AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li and AIT Hall of Famer Mr. Yen-Yi Tseng (SEM 1973), Chairman of ASE Group (who joined the ceremony online), formalising the donation of 100 documentary videos on Taiwan’s landmark infrastructure projects to the AIT Library. The AITAA ROC Chapter delegation was led by the Chapter President, Ms. Mei Yen Chung (Joanne, IB 1997) and was joined by other chapter members and alumni.

The in-kind donation comprises 100 documentary videos, all translated from Chinese into English, highlighting Taiwan’s engineering and infrastructure achievements. The videos are organised under five key categories: Public Water Supply, MRT, In Memory of Veterans, Railway Underground Project, and Railway Stories. The donated videos will be catalogued and made accessible through the AIT Library Database and will also be uploaded to the official AIT OAAA YouTube channel, significantly broadening their reach and discoverability to students, researchers, and faculty worldwide.

AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li warmly welcomed AIT Hall of Famer Mr. YY Tseng and the AITAA ROC Chapter delegation and alumni, expressing appreciation at formalising this in-kind donation agreement. President Prof. Li described these documentary videos as far more than a technical collection, noting that they are a testament to the leadership and expertise of AIT alumni who helped build the very foundation of modern Taiwan. He highlighted that, together with their presence on the AIT website and YouTube channel, the videos would serve as a living textbook of engineering excellence and inspiration for current students. President Li also expressed his hope to continue collaborating with Mr. Tseng and the AITAA ROC Chapter alumni on future meaningful projects.

Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Executive Director, Development and External Affairs – Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs (DEA-OAAA), extended sincere gratitude to AIT Hall of Famer Mr. YY Tseng, the AITAA ROC Chapter delegation led by Ms. Joanne, and alumni from Indonesia, China and Thailand who attended the ceremony. He commended the chapter’s consistent and active engagement, describing them as true ambassadors of AIT in Taiwan. Mr. Sanjeev acknowledged the generous in-kind contribution of the 100 documentary videos, which will be housed in the AIT Library and have already been uploaded to the AIT OAAA YouTube channel for broader accessibility. Additionally, these videos will also be made accessible through the AIT website soon. He also took the opportunity to recognize the cumulative impact of the AITAA ROC Chapter’s significant monetary contributions to AIT over the years, directed towards various campus initiatives, including dormitory renovations.

AIT Hall of Famer Mr. YY Tseng, joining the ceremony virtually, expressed his sincere appreciation to AIT for organising the ceremony and for the privilege of remaining connected to such a distinguished academic community. He shared that over the years he has dedicated significant time and resources to documenting stories of development, innovation, and human achievement in Taiwan, and that he firmly believes education extends beyond the textbook—that knowledge is enriched by understanding how complex ideas are implemented, how obstacles are overcome, and how collaboration leads to meaningful results. Mr. Tseng said he was honored to donate the documentary videos to AIT, hoping they would serve as valuable reference material for students, researchers, and faculty, stimulate thoughtful discussion, and inspire future leaders to think critically and act responsibly. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to his team in Taiwan for their valuable assistance in completing the 255 documentary videos and translating 100 of them into English for donation to the AIT.

Dr. Kuo-Chieh Chao, Associate Professor, Head of the Civil and Infrastructure Engineering (CIE) Department, Faculty of Infrastructure, remarked that it was his great honor to witness the ceremony. He recalled discussions with Mr. Tseng about the vision behind this donation, not merely to showcase Taiwan-related projects, but to establish a platform through which other AIT alumni associations around the world could similarly document and share their own national achievements in the future. Dr. Chao expressed hope that this initiative marks just the beginning, opening doors for alumni to collectively celebrate their contributions to their home countries, and he also extended his sincere thanks to the AITAA ROC Chapter for their continuous and generous support of dual-degree students and student exchange programs over the years.

Ms. Watcharin Intha, Director of the AIT Library, expressed her gratitude to Mr. Tseng on behalf of the AIT Library for this generous donation. She assured Mr. Tseng that all 100 video titles would be properly catalogued and uploaded to the AIT Library system, ensuring that the collection would be fully searchable, including through direct Google search, thereby increasing the discovery, accessibility, and visibility of these documentary videos both within the AIT community and through the wider library network.

Dr. Donald M. Ugsang, President of the AIT Alumni Association (AITAA), conveyed his sincere gratitude to Mr. Tseng for his generous contribution and his enduring commitment to his alma mater. He noted that Mr. Tseng’s leadership and example serve as an inspiration to the entire AITAA community. Dr. Ugsang also acknowledged the ceremony as a powerful symbol of the bond between the AITAA ROC Chapter members and AIT, and he thanked the AIT leadership and staff for their support in strengthening the collaboration between the institute and its alumni. He reiterated to the delegation that AIT is a lifelong community—a home they can always return to.

In the afternoon, the AITAA ROC Chapter and alumni proceeded to Milton E. Bender Jr. Auditorium, where Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, ED of DEA-OAAA, presented the Milton E. Bender Jr. Hybrid-Smart Learning Theatre Fundraising Campaign, an initiative undertaken under the leadership of AIT President to transform the existing auditorium into a globally connected knowledge space, leaving a lasting legacy for present and future generations of the AIT community. Mr. Wanchai Sophonsakulrat, Director of the Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM), further elaborated on the campaign’s renovation scope and details during a Q&A session with the delegation.

The visit concluded with a comprehensive campus tour that brought the delegation to several sites of special significance. They visited the AIT Library and the AITAA headquarters to gain a deeper appreciation of the work being undertaken across global alumni chapters. The delegation then visited Dormitory F, where they were able to witness the six newly renovated single-unit student rooms that were completed with the generous support of AITAA ROC Chapter members as part of the Rooms for Change Campaign – Alumni Support Towards Better Living Spaces. The visit concluded with a view of the renovated Tai-Chi Playground, another facility whose renovation was made possible through the support of the AITAA ROC Chapter.

The ceremony and the visit to the AIT campus were attended by Mr. Zue Min Hwang, President, AWEC; Mr. Chung Cheng Kao, Vice Chairman, MAA Consultant; Mr. Pen Chi Lin, Executive Board Member, AITAA ROC Chapter; other AITAA ROC Chapter members; Mr. Johny Johan from Indonesia; alumni from China and Thailand; recent SOM alumni; AIT exchange students in Taiwan; Ms. Chotiros Mongkolchotirat, Director and Executive Secretary to the President, Office of the President; Ms. Lucena D.
