Mr. Ahmed Saber, a 1980 AIT alumnus who earned his Master of Science in Computer Science & Information Management, signed a donation agreement with AIT in support of the Rooms for Change Campaign — an initiative aimed at renovating and upgrading student living spaces in AIT’s Student Village. Mr. Saber contributed THB 500,000 towards the naming opportunity of one building (No. 29) in Student Village 2 (SV2). AIT will recognize the donation by installing a plaque on the building stating Ahmed Saber and Hamida Mumina (Bangladesh/Australia), with the naming recognition to remain in place for the lifetime of the building.

The Rooms for Change Campaign aims to upgrade dormitories in Student Village 1 and 2, with each of the six rooms in a building to be equipped with air-conditioning and bathrooms fitted with water heaters. The entire building will also be repainted and upgraded with new flooring. The naming recognition will remain in place for the lifespan of the building. The campaign directly benefits present and future AIT students by upgrading their living standards and creating a more comfortable and conducive environment for study.
AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li expressed appreciation for Mr. Saber’s support towards the Rooms for Change Campaign. He emphasized that students are at the center of AIT as an institution and that this donation not only improves living conditions but also serves as an inspiration for other alumni to give back in meaningful ways. He noted that current students will one day become alumni themselves and will have the opportunity to make similarly impactful contributions to the Institute.
Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Executive Director, Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs (OAAA), Office of Development and External Affairs (ODEA), thanked Mr. Saber for taking the initiative to extend generous support to his alma mater. He highlighted that the Rooms for Change Campaign has resonated with many alumni, who, like Mr. Saber, recall their own experience living in the AIT student dormitories and recognize the long-term benefits that improved facilities will bring to current and future students. Mr. Sanjeev further mentioned that this contribution plays a vital role for the AIT students, benefiting from a safer, more comfortable, and more inspiring place to live and learn.
Mr. Saber expressed his sincere appreciation for the opportunity to support AIT and thanked Mr. Sanjeev for facilitating this contribution. He reflected on his time at the Institute in 1980 and shared that the education and experiences he gained at AIT have stayed with him throughout his career. He noted that supporting the dormitory renovation is his way of ensuring that students today have an even better environment in which to learn and grow.
The signing ceremony was held and hosted at the residence of Dr. Edwin Marcelo Cabig Aguirre, a fellow AIT alumnus of the 1990 batch from the MSc. Agricultural and Food Engineering. Also present at the signing was Dr. Abdullah Al Mamoon, a 1986 AIT alumnus who earned his Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering.
