At the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), learning is designed to lead to action. For me, joining AIT as a Master’s student in Development and Sustainability marked a decisive shift from engaging with sustainability challenges through advocacy and storytelling to addressing them through policy, interdisciplinary analysis, and evidence-based solutions. Supported by Her Majesty the Queen’s Scholarship for Master’s Degree, my journey at AIT has strengthened my ability to translate regional experience into meaningful impact across Southeast Asia.
Before coming to AIT, my work in communication, journalism, and youth leadership took me across borders, disciplines, and communities in the region.
I engaged with sustainability challenges through regional innovation programs, ASEAN youth policy dialogues, and field reporting on climate-induced migration. These experiences exposed me to a recurring truth: sustainability issues, whether climate change, migration, food systems, or urban resilience are deeply interconnected. While storytelling and advocacy are powerful, I came to realize that lasting change requires strong development frameworks, inclusive policy design, and institutional capacity.
This realization became the turning point that led me to AIT, an institution uniquely positioned at the intersection of regional development, policy, and practice.
At AIT, I found an academic environment that mirrors the complexity of the real world: interdisciplinary, international, and grounded in application. The Development and Sustainability program challenged me to think beyond sectoral silos, combining development theory, environmental governance, and policy analysis with real-world case studies. Returning to full-time study after professional work was demanding, but it reaffirmed that growth is rarely linear and that meaningful learning often begins with courage.
Through AIT, I continued to engage actively in regional initiatives aligned with the Institute’s mission. I currently serve as an ASEAN Youth Organization Ambassador (Thailand Chapter), contributing to youth-led regional dialogue on sustainable development. I also participated in the IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition (WDCE) 2025, where AIT is one of the co-organizers. Attending this global forum as part of the AIT academic community allowed me to engage directly with water professionals, policymakers, and researchers working on global water security and resilience.

AIT’s emphasis on experiential learning was further reflected in my participation in Bangkok Climate Action Week 2025, organized in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Through the Youth Capacity Workshop on Urban Climate Resilience, my interdisciplinary team developed “The Green Shelter: Rest, Recharge, and Resilience for Bangkok’s Riders.” The project proposed climate-adaptive rest shelters for motorcycle delivery drivers, integrating solar energy, EV charging, flood management, and air-quality monitoring, while advocating for social protection and well-being. The project received Second Prize, demonstrating how AIT’s integrative approach enables students to translate theory into inclusive, people-centered solutions.

My engagement at AIT has also extended to communication and facilitation bridging research, policy, and public understanding. During my studies, I received a grant from UNDP Thailand and the Embassy of Japan to produce in-depth articles on disasters and tsunami preparedness, based on fieldwork in schools with systematic disaster preparedness training. I also served as a facilitator and group trainer for the Children and Youth Forum in Chonburi and Nakhon Si Thammarat, supported by the Department of Climate Change and Environment, further connecting policy, youth engagement, and community resilience.
Looking back, AIT has not only strengthened my academic foundation but also provided a platform to connect regional learning with regional action. From ASEAN policy dialogue and water governance to urban climate resilience and ethical storytelling, my experience at AIT continues to shape how I approach sustainable development challenges in Southeast Asia.
At AIT, I am learning that sustainability is not a single discipline but a shared responsibility, one that demands collaboration, evidence, and compassion. Through this journey, I am committed to contributing knowledge, leadership, and meaningful action toward a more inclusive and resilient region.
