8 April 2026 – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Sunshine Medical International Co. Ltd. (“Sunshine”), Bangkok, to establish a strategic collaboration in advanced biomedical research and innovation.

The MoA supports the establishment of a company within AIT’s BOI Science and Technology Park (STP), focusing on translational research and product development, joint intellectual property (IP) creation, scholarships and talent mobility, technology commercialization, and professional education.
AIT will collaborate with Sunshine and its subsidiary, Cell Differentiation Hub Co. Ltd. (CDH), on joint research, IP development, talent exchange, commercialization of pilot-scale innovations, and knowledge transfer through research, training, and academic programs.
All research activities under this MoA will be limited to pre-clinical, non-therapeutic, and non-interventional purposes unless approved by relevant regulatory authorities.
AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li stated, “This partnership comes at the right time, where regenerative medicine and AI are shaping the future of healthcare. Together, we are advancing innovation while creating value for the region and future generations.”
Sunshine Chairman, Dr. Ashraf El Masry, added, “We see regenerative medicine as the future. Technologies like stem cell therapy and tissue engineering can transform healthcare without invasive procedures. AIT is the right partner to advance both research and real-world production.”
The collaboration is expected to strengthen industry–academia linkages, expand opportunities for faculty and students in applied research, and enhance pathways for technology transfer and commercialization. CDH has also expressed interest in investing in the renovation of the Habitech area to establish a clean laboratory facility, further strengthening AIT’s research infrastructure.

Sunshine Medical International operates in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sectors. Its subsidiary, CDH, focuses on stem cell research, including human and plant-based technologies, with applications in areas such as wound healing and skincare.
Sunshine delegation included Mr Jay Sze Tan, Director; Mr Sacha El Masry, Director; and Mr. Sethu Narayanan Ragupathy, Director. From AIT Prof. Siddharth K. Jabade, Vice President for Administration and Development; Dr. Branesh Madhavan Pillai, Assistant Professor, Industrial Systems Engineering, Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director, OIA; and Ms Jennifer Pangilinan, Manager, BOI STP Coordination Office.
