Two faculty members from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FCEE) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Dr. Ekbordin Winijkul and Dr. Nurul Husna Hassan, participated in the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) Program at the Faculty of Water Sciences, Ludovika University of Public Service, Hungary, from 13–17 April 2026.

The mobility activities were conducted at Ludovika University’s main campus in Budapest and the Faculty of Water Sciences in Baja. The program aimed to strengthen academic collaboration, promote knowledge exchange, and enhance international engagement between AIT and Ludovika University. During the visit, the faculty members carried out teaching activities, participated in professional exchanges, and explored opportunities for future research and academic collaboration.

Dr. Ekbordin delivered a lecture titled “Assessing Plastic Waste in Aquatic Ecosystems,” where he shared AIT’s research experiences on plastic pollution assessment, monitoring approaches, aquatic ecosystem protection, and strategies to reduce plastic leakage into rivers and other water bodies. He also visited the Regional Waste Management Hub in Szeged, gaining practical insights into regional waste management practices and exploring how these experiences could contribute to future teaching, research, and collaborative initiatives related to plastic pollution management and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Nurul delivered lectures on water engineering, flood behaviour, hydraulic systems, and the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in water systems analysis. Through theoretical discussions and practical case studies, she introduced students to advanced modelling approaches and real-world applications in flood and hydraulic engineering.
As part of the mobility program, the AIT faculty members participated in campus tours, laboratory visits, and field-based learning activities, including visits to the Water Technology Educational Base Building, Hydraulic Laboratory, Hydraulic Physical Model Laboratory, and a river-based field learning activity. These activities provided valuable insights into the host institution’s teaching methodologies, research facilities, and practical approaches to water sciences and engineering.

Throughout the visit, they engaged with academic staff and researchers from the Faculty of Water Sciences, including Prof. Enikő Anna Tamás, Dr. Gábor Keve, and Dr. Tamás Karches, to discuss shared research interests, teaching practices, and opportunities for future collaboration. The mobility was supported by Diána Starnfeldné Kis, Erasmus+ International Coordinator of the International Mobility Department at Ludovika University, and Lilla Tarnai, Erasmus+ Coordinator of the Faculty of Water Sciences, who facilitated the academic and administrative arrangements.
The Erasmus+ mobility strengthened institutional ties between AIT and Ludovika University while fostering the exchange of expertise in areas such as plastic pollution management, water engineering, hydraulic modelling, flood risk management, climate resilience, and environmental protection. The experience also contributes to broader efforts in higher education internationalisation, regional capacity building, and collaborative research between Asia and Europe.
The mobility was successfully implemented under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility framework with the support and coordination of the Office of International Affairs at AIT and the Faculty of Water Sciences at Ludovika University of Public Service, Hungary.
