15 July 2026: Dr. Saurabh Biswas, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Climate Change and Sustainability (FCCS), has co-edited the book titled, “Routledge Handbook of Arctic Energy Transition”. He collaborated with Prof. Bram Noble and Prof. Greg Poelzer from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada), and Dr. Gwen Holdmann and Dr. Diane Hirshberg from the Alaska Center for Power and Energy (USA) to develop this comprehensive reference on the diverse aspects of energy transition in the Arctic.
The handbook provides an in-depth overview of energy security across Arctic countries and examines the social, economic, political, and environmental challenges of energy transition in one of the world’s most geopolitically important regions.
“The Arctic is often seen as an icy landscape that is highly vulnerable to climate change and rich in natural resources. However, it is also home to diverse groups of people and cultures. With more than 30 chapters, this handbook highlights the complexity of Arctic energy transitions and their strong connection to global sustainability,” said Dr. Biswas.
In addition to co-editing the handbook, Dr. Biswas co-authored two chapters: The Energy–Poverty Nexus and Just Transitions in the Arctic (with Dominique Pride) and Social Value of Energy: Planning Energy Transitions as If People Mattered (with Anne Brigitte Lim).
